I use Hanna test kits for my reef tank and am very pleased. I would like to get some Hanna kits for freshwater, but all of the testers on their site are geared toward swimming pool tests.

Does anyone know if the Hanna marine pH tester is accurate for freshwater as well? I have compared it to the freshwater API kit and it seems close, as far as I can tell. The API pH test color gradient is awful. pH is pH, freshwater or saltwater. I just don't know if the reagent would be the same.

Hanna test kits are well-regarded for their accuracy, especially in marine environments, but when it comes to freshwater, there can be slight differences in how reagents interact with the water’s composition. While pH is fundamentally the same in both freshwater and saltwater, factors like buffering capacity and ion concentration can affect readings. The Hanna marine pH tester should give you a close approximation in freshwater, but for the most precise results, it’s best to use a kit specifically designed for freshwater parameters. Since you already use Hanna for your reef tank, it might be worth reaching out to them directly to see if they recommend any of their marine equipment for dual use in freshwater setups.
