hey

i did a 15% water change today on the tank in my sig.
ever since i switched the light back on after the water change one of my boesmannes rainbow keeps swimming near the surface and seems to be opening and closing its mouth faster than normal??
i cant see any marks, spots etc on it.

the stats are -
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
pH 7
Temp 24oc

all the other fish seem ok, theres a bubble stone in there thats on all the time so o2 levels should be ok.

i also added 2 new plants today.

any ideas whats wrong??
thanks :)

If it's only one fish acting this way can't see it being anything in the water.
Has he got something fast in his mouth.

cant see anything in its mouth!

although on closer inspection i can see a tiny white spec on the bottom lip, i always thought this was meant to be there as hes had it since i got him (about 1 1/2 weeks), but maybe this is the problem?

thanks x

any ideas?
thanks x x

whoops didnt mean to post so many times!!!!! - computer went into overload!!

hi not really, its only tiny.

the fish is still swimming near the top of the tank and opening its mouth faster than normal.
ive just fed them and he is normally really greedy and eats all the food but he didnt touch any of it!
what should i do?
i have any empty 5 gal hexagon tank with small heater and under gravel filter i could put him in, but how do i set it up, also wouldthis just stress him more?
thanks x x x

hey just got home from college an the fish mentioned above now has parts of the tail missing and his fins!
how do i set up a hospital tank asap??
thanks x x x

Just take some water from the main tank, then add some fresh, need a heater, check temp to see if it matches then add the fish.

hey thanks, ive set up the tank, im gonna put him in later on when its upto the right temp.
if he has fin rot, is it likely that others in the tank will have it? can they catch it?
also wont the ammonia etc build up in this small tank?
ive heard tes tree oil can help cure fin rot is this true,
thanks again youre loadsa help!

No you will need a bacterial med as the finrot sounds like a secondary infection, need to find out about the whitespot on the lip, if it dosn't look like a grain of salt, i would go with bacterial columnaris.
I would do some daily water changes on the main tank.

hi ok.
ive just moved the poorly rainbow into the 5gal hospital tank as i just saw some of the black widows attacking him!!
so what shall i treat him with in his hospital tank? the white spot on his lip is tiny but doesnt look like a grain of salt.
do i need to treat the main tank aswell?
thanks again x x x
