I decided that i'd had enough of my foams blocking up constantly... so i decided to take one foam out and replace it with a layer od ceramic rings and floss... here are the pics (i found a spare hole in my other filter to put the media I moved in

The filter, with rings and wool...

Good idea. I would've filled the whole section with rings though, rather than fill the gaps with floss.

If you were having a problem with the filter clogging before, the floss you added around the rings might cause the same problem.

i couldnt fit any more rings in... i could try to...

Well if you can fit three in a row along the bottom, why not every row?

mamaged too fit one more ring in with a 3 per row solution... last row only has 2 though due to lack of room.

have also crammed in some rings into the hole down the centres of the original foams.

have also put rings into other filters (where room)

I cap off my ceramic rings with a layer of sponge in all 3 of my media trays , works a treat , floss will clog quickly.
Extra sponges are great for instant mature media when needed or do friends when cycling a new tank!
