guppy with white stuff... new tank

I've been giving meds (tetracycline pills that dissolve) for 7 days now (though it said to do it 5, then 5 again if need be), but he still has some white stuff on him. It had turned into an open, red sore for a day or so, then starting growing the white stuff on it again. I'm continuing the meds until it clears up, but don't know if I'm doing the right thing. Don't want him to die. He is still swimming ok and eating some.

Carry on with the med, if it isn't a scaless fish i would also recommend some salt baths.

Also, I just noticed my neon being kind of sluggish, and when I checked everything, the nitrites are off the chart... what should I do?

Do some water changes to fetch them down.

Will a water change mess up the medicine I'm giving?

Just add the amount back of med to the amount of water removed, good luck.

Just to let you know, this morning my male guppy is about dead. He's barely swimming around, just kind of shimmying in place. I took him out of the big tank and put him in a hospital tank (it's only about a gallon). Hope he makes it, but it doesn't look good. The white stuff it still on him, after 8 days of meds. Don't know what else to do, so I'll let nature take it's course, I guess. Thanks to everyone for the help though... I really appreciate it!
