I have had my female guppy for two weeks, and she came home with what looked like a a black spot behind her stomach. She is an orange colour, and slightly transparent, which was why you could see this black spot inside her. I know that when they are pregnant they get a gravid spot, however, I was pretty sure she was in a tank at the fish shop with all females. Anyway, I kept an eye on it and she doesn't appear to be particularly rounded (although she is bigger than my male guppy). However, today I noticed that this black spot inside her had turned red and had tiny black dots in it and is slightly bigger. It is internal (not on her skin), and she appears happy- she is swimming about fine and eating. Any ideas what it might be? Is she pregnant- I doubt it, but I am not sure as she had a gravid spot? I'm sorry the pictures aren't very good! Thanks

The black spot you noticed is in fact the "Gravid" spot... what you are seeing are the eyes of the unborn fry and after she delivers her fry, this spot turns pinkish as you describe, so it is likely that your guppy actually delivered her fry.

Unless you have a lot of hiding place (floating plants and bushy thickets) the fry will not survive the preying eyes of the rest of the tank occupants.

with regards to her being in an all female tank.... yes... she must've been exposed to a male somewhere in her life and once impregnated, she will deliver 4 or 5 times at around 26 day intervals without again being exposed to any male.... The wonders of nature hey??

Thanks! She didn't get that rounded though, and I thought the black spot may have just been part of her stomach, as she is quite transparent! Does this mean she will give birth again soon? Could the little black dots not be the eyes of the fry in her?

As I stated... she should deliver again in around 25/6 days (if your temp is around 26/7 deg C)... I do notice (now that the pics are up)... that you also have penguins in there.... If you intend to breed the guppies, I'll advise that you get a seperate delivery tank for them and rear the fry in another tank.

Well her black spots got larger, and there is definitely some orange fluid around it. There is 1 large black spot and several smaller black spots around it in the orange liquid. She is getting slightly plumper- but it's not really noticeable. Any idea when she might give birth- would like to be prepared?! Thanks

Anyone got any ideas as to when she'll give birth please!?
