guppy (strange behavior) *Great news UPDATED12:58

o okay............... :byebye:

no not the gills the gill plate I guess you call it...

The almost cycled one has outrageous amounts of nitries WAY more than 10.0... Do a water change and put him in there???

Ha Ha, just read the post before... I did say gills... oops

EDIT: how often to bathe in salt?

i think he's taking his last few breaths. He jammed himself under a plant and i see his gills move very, very slowly. He's not moving... :-(

is columnaris contageous? He's definitely dieing :-( I've got to take my time to say good bye :byebye:

he's on his back and he's breathing slowly... It'll all be over soon :-(

EDIT: well that little fighter. Took him nearly an hr to let go. He wanted to live SOOO bad. I could see him fighting. He's gone now. TOD: 1:02 am EST.

The little fishy that started this HUGE thread is now gone... I'm so sad, but yet relieved that he's relieved.

:rip: (no name) :byebye:

I'm so sorry Mlee. You did absolutely everything you could. And I'm sure he was very happy living with you.

:rip:

Columnaris is contagious. If yousee any signs of it on the other fish, catch it very early, and treat it, and they should get over it. You might want to continue treating the tank with an antibacterial med.

sorry to hear for you lose..keep up on those water changes though

as for the guppy fry, you will probably have to raise them to at least 2 months old before you can sell them to pet stores as anything other than feeders..so i would def. go survival of the fittest ...as for the gravel, it should be just fine, just make sure you feed them 5 small meals a day and keep the tank very clean

How can I ensure the fry get the food and not just the bigold things (compared to them  )?

Also, is melafix an antibacterial thing ur talkin' about?

GREAT NEWS  I just notive the HOB filter is BROKEN on the 29g. The filter cart don't fit right and the dirty water can go right through it if it moved just a little! my luck right now is so great! I'm so mad, cuz now I have to start ALL over again with the bacteria...

Did I mention that it was COVERED in bacteria earlier? Well it was, now I've got to start over. The good part to this is my Wal-mart is going to replace the filter. Maybe I can talk them into allowing me to get the larger size and paying the difference... I hope so, that way I won't have to start over AGAIN! (3rd time; same tank!) I need to be in the book of records for that :p

well you should feed them crushed flakes and whatnot....they will have plenty of time to eat the small particles before your larger fish eat them all

and if they don't eat, that's their problem? Not to worry if they don't eat, right?

Now another question...

Should I put the bag from a breeder over the intakje hose to prevent sucked up babies? or will they not venture up that high?

Technically, they should be eating Liquifry or Hikari First Bites, or something liek that for the first week at least...but if they are in the main tank, I guess they'll have to get flakes. Make sure to crush them up pretty small. They have teensy tiny mouths.

As for the filter...some people use pantyhose, or something similar. :)

And don't worry...they WILL venture up that high!!

i was told to feed them flakes by several other people, and also a breeding site on guppies said the same thing. I was also told to feed them brine shrimp maybe once a day, I guess when they get older?

Yeah, flakes are fine. I've just found my fry turn out to be somewhat healthier and stronger if they get high protein and healthy foods from the start.

They can eat Baby Brine Shrimp right now. Live, or Frozen. Or adult Brine Shrimp when they are older, and it can fit in their mouths.... Live, Frozen, or Freeze-dried.

Also, could I just see the site where it says to feed only flakes? Just curious. :*

I didn't mean to sound testy. Sorry. I was just letting you know that i never heard of that liquid stuff you were talking about :D I probably should have worded better...

I'll see if I can find it...

No problem. I edited that anyway... :)

This is Liquifry No. 2. Generally used for Livebearers.

If you scroll down here you can see the TetraMin Fry food.

And finally, Hikari First Bites.

Those are the ones I reccomend, along with some live/frozen/freeze-dried food.

here it is, the FAQ on a guppy webpage.

Thank you very much.

Also, no one answered...

What antinacterial stuff should I use to continues treating tank?

(Wal-mart wouldn't let me exchange for the larger HOB filter  , they said it was b/c I purchased it with a kit, so they went and got another kit to take the filter out of and they're going to send the WHOLE kit (one that was on the shelf there, not mine) back with the broken filter. How retarded...)

I said earlier "Can you issolate him anywhere? Then you could treat with Kanacyn, if you can find it. Otherwise, plain Maracyn or tetracycline can be used." Melafix would also work, as it's not going to be too harsh on the fish.

But before you treat, are any other fish exhibiting signs of columnaris? If not...I wouldn't treat.
