Guppy Fry! I Bought Some!

Yesh. I bought feeder guppies. I was at Big Al's, for my weekly trip (next week is Midnight Madness, where you can get up to 75% off on stuffz!! I'm going to see what their prices on livestock and the tanks are!!), and they had a *lot* more feeder guppies than last time. It was a tough choice between endlers and feeder guppies (especially as you could get *NO* picks, and only a few of thems were actually COLOURFULS D, but, in the end, my Mom's love for the fry prevailed. :3

We bought 12 (if you got less than 10 they were 49c each; over 10 were 20c each); or so we thought.... I opened the bag when we got home, and it turned out that there were actually 14 fry in theres! Well, we put 7 in a breeding trap in my 10-gallon, and 7 in my Mom's tank -- needless to say, even *WITH* java moss and a few marbles, it didn't go too wells.... I think that the pearl danio and the two Bettas ate 3 or 4 of the babies. DX

Well, anyways; they're all females (I guess....), but, then again, they are *very* young, and they're all a yellowish/silver colour. They all appear to have gravid spots. Some of their tails are a bit chewed-up, but they seem fine and happy, overalls. I fed them a (rather large) helping of First Bites Fry Food -- and, as it turned out, they ate every bit!

Yeah, so, we're just waiting on them growing up, nows. Pictures to come. ^^;

All young guppies look like females Amberleaf. As they start to mature, you will get to find out what fish are really males or females. Even with java moss, fast predators and efficient predators will take a toll on fry.

Hi oldman long time no see, congrats on the moderator job!

Anyway i wouldn't mix any male guppies with your betta as there have been cases that I have heard of such as the betta thinking the male guppy is another male betta. So look out to see signs of aggression when the male fry get there colours and/if they turn out to be a longer finned variety.

I know. I realize that. If the guppies all turn out to be mixed genders, then, by the time they all mature, I will *hopefully* have my 30-gallon all up and running (since the tank is so big, my door will probably remain half-closed, oh, well, maybe I can get rid of my nightstand XD like that will ever happen; so I can stick the different-gendered guppies in the other tanks.... Believe me, I will *NOT* get endless fry if I can help it!!!! XD

Congrats of the guppy rescue. I have heard there is a Feeder Guppy Rescue Society (not sure what the actual name of the group is). I thought about joining. Even feeder guppies deserve a chance, sometimes they turn out beautiful!

My guppy tank has a little fry in it. First I noticed the gravid spot, but it wasn't until the fins became better shaped that I was able to confirm that it's a she. She's in with two male guppies. I had planned to move her in with my female betta but am positive that the betta will eat the guppy. Right now, the female betta has a platy to play with and she chased the poor platy NON STOP. Luckily the platy has short fins and swims fast enough. She'll have to be moved.

Anyway, what is your plan with your little feeder guppies?

Right now, I'm just really hoping that they *grow*, to be quite honest. Afterwards, I'll have to find some way to separate my males & females.... ^^; Which shouldn't be *too* hard; if I can get my bigger tanks.... ^^; My Mom is thinking of setting up a fish tank in the playroom, so hope that goes through! ^^;

They're growing fast. They're so cute when they eat! ^^; I try to vary their diet; Hikari Fry Food, crushed-up bloodworms (which they seem to like the most ^^, and Nutrafin Maxx flakes (which I feed to my adults), crushed up, are the foods that they eat. ^^; Fry Food the most, and the bloodworms more often, and, *rarely*, the flakes. ^^;

Hahaha; I'm already busy planning out how to stock my 30-gallon when I get it, what to keep in my 10-gallon (it's hard! But the WCMM are definitely staying), and it's a full-time job, let me tell yous!! XD ^^;
