Hi, I really want to start to breed guppies! I have four males at the moment (I havent got females yet). I also have 3 medium angelfish and 1 molly in the tank (they all get on fine!).
So I just wanted to ask if its ok to breed guppies with the fish I have in the tank or will I need to get a seperate tank foe them???
And if I were to breed guppies any advice???
Thank you!

You could breed them in the community tank(the tank your asking about) fine but when you notice the female guppies becoming fatter it usually means they are pregnant. When you notice it put the female that is fat in a breeding box which will float on the top of your tank. This will protect the babies from being eaten by their mother and the other fish. Once the mother has stopped passing the babies you should remove her from the breeding box and let the babies grow enough so that they can't be eaten.

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/91-common-livebearers/ have a good look here and read the "Pinned" topics. You will find out a load of great useful info! Please read them before trying to breed them. Just to be safe.

Guppies can be bred if you have a place to pass along the fry. There is little easier than breeding guppies in a tank of their own. You keep the adults well fed and scoop out the fry when you see them. I scoop about 15 to 20 adults from a 10 gallon tank every 6 months or so. By scooping out the adults, I slightly slow the population explosion for a month or two. After that, the tank becomes packed with fish again. In a tank with 3 angels, you will not meed to worry much about scooping out fry. The angels will eat almost any fish smaller than an adult guppy. I do not try to save any livebearers in the tank that I have which contains angels as it would be almost impossible to get things right for survivors. The molly just adds to the number of predators in your tank. If you truly want your guppy fry to survive and be passed along, you will need to set up a separate place for the guppies to drop their fry.

Thank you OldMan47 :good:

When I am going to get the females, how many should I get???

If you are keeping guppies in small numbers, it is best to have 2 or 3 females for each male. If you get large numbers of breeders, you can get closer to an equal number of males and females.

I am going to get my females today!!! Im really excited!

I will keep in mind about the angels, although when I think she is about to give birth, and I am about to go out, will I put the female in the breeding trap???

Trapping females 'just in case' they drop will stress them out big time, instead make sure you have plenty of floating plants and hidey holes for the fry, then they'll be fine until you catch them(invest in a turkey baster, they're a god send for sucking up fry  )

Also depending how many females you get today, keep an eye on your water stats :good:

Thank you! I will get some plants today when I get the females.

Also as I am only going to start to breed guppies I dont want to end up with too many straightaway, so shall I just get 2 or will I get more as I have 4 males??? :good:
