Guppies Swimming At Top?

I bought 7 guppies to add some energy and color to my 80gal community tank. I have 5 discus some are 4" one is 5" . They don't bother the guppies at all. But the guppies tend to stay at the surface of the water and sometimes go to the middle. This is normal right? They eat well are active and fun to watch. The tanknis kind of open right now because the plants need to grow in a bit. It's been 14 years since I had guppies my focus has been on large cichlids till now. So please don't mind my silly question.

Yes, it's normal. Guppies are surface dwelling fish, which you can tell by their upturned mouths. Sounds like a great tank, and guppies will add so much more to it!

Ok thanks that's what I thought just wanted to dubble check. Not sure why it took me so long to get guppis. I really like them more then I thought I would.

They are surface dwelling fish but only spend a percentage of there time at the surface, compared to the amount of time they spend towars the middle. I am 100 percent sure that it isn't a result of Oxygen (O2) levels being low if the discus are handling it pretty well and thriving. Possibly the guppies are still adapting to the new home.

They are getting a bit more bold and will explore more. I have only had them for 4 days. I think the fact the discus being bigger and always hang out in the mid. This might be the reason they favor the surface.

Water is all good that's not the issue.
