Gravel Help

ok ive got some gravel and its quite small type stones, imagine last time you were down at your local river and your stood right next to the edge of the rivver and theres those tiny stones that are about 1mm if that, well that type size, now ive spent about a hour washing these and i cant get it clean, im guessing that stones that small shouldnt make the water murky? any tips on best way to clean them?

put the gravel in a bucket, then fill it with water, swirl it around abit then tip the water out.
keep doing this until the water is clear.
if you do small batches of gravel it seems to be quicker

thats what ive been doing for a hour now

will give it another go tomtorow and hope for better results

Washed it out last night for another hour. As soon as it went in the tank the water looked filthy. Gonna leave it untill tonight so its had 24 hours to settle then perform 2 or 3 50% water changes to see if that helps. Hopefully it will.

Bloody gravel. Would have been quicker to dig for stones myself

If you have a bucket or tub put the gravel in it with a hose pipe in the bottom.
Place one side of the tub on a brick or similar so that it is tilted but stable and turn on the hose.
The water will force up most of the dirt and wash it away.
Will still need to do a final rinse under the tap ideally with a sieve or collander for best results.
