Gravel Cleaner Help

I have a Python aquarium cleaner that is about 20 years old. I haven't had an aquarium in about 17 years but recently started up a small 10 gallon. I got my old Python out of the basement and it has some mildew in the tubing. Is there any way to safely clean the mildew out? I have some vinegar soaking in it now but it doesn't seem to be helping. If I can't get rid of the mildew safely would it be ok to still use the python for draining only, then fill the tank using gallon jugs? Thanks very much for any help.

I'd try filling it with a mild bleach solution; or the stuff they sell for sterilising babies bottles. That should get rid of it. Rinse well afterwards!

Thanks! I will give that a try. I was afraid of using bleach and having it harm the fish but I will rinse it for a really long time.

Milton fluid or crushed Camden tablets dissolved in some warm water or you could try one off them
drain cleaning wire the one with a small brush on the end but wash out well with all of the above
with plenty of warm water
