the red tailed black shark pictus catfish kribs and plec went in yesterday. today i went a bought a blue acara and red striped severeum. the shark is chasing the new fish like a madman !!! even tho he is smaller than both of em. im hoping they are just running away as they have to settle in and once they do they will grow some nuts and put him in his place. see he is a typical playground bully if he starts and a fish lets him he will totally beast it . but if they give it back like my kribs did he wont touch them again. he tried it with mr krib , got a slap and now he wont go near him. dont want to have remove him but dont want new fish stressed either . will they put him in his place once they settle down a bit?

If your severum is anything like the one my daughter has, the RTS had better enjoy it while he can. She has a severum that is now between 7 and 8 inches long, almost as tall and well over an inch thick through the body. He doesn't accept any misbehaviour in his tank from any of the other fish. If 2 of the other fish get into a scrap, he will break it up by attacking the one that seems to be coming out on top. It is a very peaceful 140 gallon tank that he rules with an iron fist. Even the foot long plecs don't give him any trouble. Yes it is definitely a he. When some other severums had fry in his tank, he even adopted a fry and protected it from all of the other cichlids that he lives with. It was funny to watch a fish his size escorting a half inch fry around the tank.

It sounds like you dumped a lot of bottom dwellers/territorial fish in all at once. They're naturally gonna go at it for a little while till they get their territories settled out amongst themselves.

Now that's a fish I'd love to see.

Ah see didnt take the RTBS into account when you asked about the acara this morning, hopefully things will settle down, best to have as Im sure you know, plenty of hiding place and plants so they cant see each other all the time.
