6 corydora sterbai
1 wild ancictrus

happy days

Corydora look ace in a group

Are these still the same discus Mark or did you get new ones?

I;m going to do discus again ( I know I;ve messed about) but the Uarus should go today and the rubber eel soon so I can get plants and tetras. Bought 4 lovely Altum angels yesterday to go with them

yep theyre the same discus still simon. i do still intend to get some different strains , but in all reality thats not going to be happening til around april/may.

those altums will look stunning in a planted tank mate . is this the 150g youre doing this in? if so id sy if you have the opportunity to get 3 or 4 more altums id go for it , they will look amazing in a big group , with some nice discus in a planted tank that big

yes its in the 150 g tank

I tried planting it at the start of the set up but the Uarus eat about £20 of plants within days!!!

The shop has a couple more altums if they are still there next week I may get them , they're £8.50 though

its about time for more pics :D

Found them  I was looking in the pics section in this section not the pics section

just be carefull with corys in a bare bottom tank mark, they can easilly get bacterial infections in them. for this reason when breeding corys its best to use a substrate for the fry.

cheers matt , i always make sure i keep my tank spotlessly clean anyway , but il be sure to keep a close eye on them .

yeah im sure you do i wasnt implying anything ;)

its just not ideal for corys on bare glass as bacteria that you cant even see builds up and can attack the barbels. just thought i would let ya know :)

I have read this too about bare bottomed tanks with corys and pictus cats, half the tank my cats are in is bare the other half smooth gravel, they spend 90% of their time on the bare part. I did this because on one cat Faceman (aka dimwit) who's top lip is missing from being trapped in the intake of a filter. When I had all smooth gravel he kept getting infections in his lip, since I took up half the gravel he has never had a problem again. However I do wipe over the bare section when doing a wc as I do with the glass.

i personally use gravel with a pygmy cory and a plec, and they dont really mind it. never heard of bacterial infections of the barbels before though! :S

smooth gravel is ok but as corys like to sift through the substrate for food, sand is ideal for them. the problem with rough gravel is that the barbels can get small cuts and may get infected and the issue with bare bottom tanks is that different bacterias forms on the glass making it easier for the bottom feeders to get infections.
Marks tank is a bare bottom tank as he keeps discus and needs to remove any uneaten food etc before it goes off to keep the water in tip top condition.
