I got my dwarf puffer this morning! :D As soon as I put him in his tank he started chasing snails. He didn't seem interested in the ghost shrimp. Hopefully it will stay that way and I'll have a nice cleaning crew. I put a few frozen bloodworms in the bag while it was acclimating. He was more interested in the airline tube that was dripping into his bag. I'll try the bloodworms again tomorrow. Plus there are plenty of snail for him to hunt and munch on. I've read that they may not eat the first day or two because they are busy exploring. Is this true, or should I be worried if he won't eat?

I can't find any snails in the tank, so either he's a pig and ate them all or the live ones are hiding. He isn't interested in the ghost shrimp at all. Though most of them are bigger than him. He was watching the largest one (~2 inches) eat a bloodworm.

Picture time!

That's why he's the only one. The tank is 5 gallons so I could have another, but I'm afraid that they would fight. I have ghost shrimp in there so there's not on tiny fish in the tank.

He ate one bloodworm this morning, but he's constantly hunting snails. He's not really interested in food yet. I'll call the store where I got him and find out what they fed him. Right now I have frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. In March I'll be able to get some mosquito larvae.

Nice!

Mine completely ignore my ghost shrimp, but as soon as put some cherry shrimp in.....GONE in minutes. Mine are also very happy with Ottos and tetra sized fish. Actually not had any issues with fin nipping, except the occasional bout with each other but that seems to have settled now too (they are 3yrs old now...).

Proper good little fish!

You won probably have had more look taking the puffer out before adding the cherry shrimp in.

If the fish are put into a tank where the shrimp are they'll usually be fine but soon as you empty a bag with new shrimp in this is the same action as you throwing some food in and they instinctively think of it as a snack.

I love the dwarf puffer and have owned them myself. My puffer unfortunately ate the tails off my neon tetra so something to watch out for. Love the tank and think the puffers look great. Have you added any salt to your tank?

My puffer did not eat for the first day but quickly found their appetite. Good luck

Nick
