I have posted this before but I didn't get much of a response from the beginners section. I have one gold Severum and I am hoping to get a 50-60 gallon within 2 weeks time. My 30 gallon contains
Severum
Bristlenose
Yo Yo loaches
Pegassius
Neons

I am wanting to Make the 50 gallon
2 Gold Severums, 3 Green
and the previous inhabitants.

Is there any other fish similar to severums in size and colour that would be compatible? I have looked on google and it said knife fish but i didn't that it was possible.

In a 50 gallon, I wouldn't do more than 2 Severums, full grown. Do you have plans for re-homing the other 3? If not, then you might want to re-think your stocking plans.

Have you looked into rainbowfish? You could do a school of 5-6 Boesemani rainbows and I think they would be a nice complement to the Severums. My other initial thought was Giant Danios.

If your Sevs happen to pair up (good chance with 5) your going to have alot of unhappy fish as the breeding pair will become extremely aggressive and probably cause some problems. I'd agree with parker and maybe only get two. My sev is currently with 2keyholes cichlids, red eye tetras, various barbs and five pictus catfish.

Good luck with the new tank....

Can't argue parkers good advice. Neons will become lunch or sick from stress as the Sevs grow, best to remove them IMO.

I used to keep my firemouth with my severum and I didn't have any problems with those two. Some territorial stand-offs, but no real violence.

I recommend

None...
Your tank is too small...

get a 90 g,then you could have a pr of sevs and 2-3 fm and a 6 rainbows...

What about a nice Geophagus or a Satanothingy.
Then you could have a funky amazonian setup...I reckon a 50 gal is big enough to have a few silver dollars? Probably not with a pair of sevs though (especially when breeding as digital run said) but one on its own is relatively peaceful.

Cheers,
Luke.
