My friend came over and tested my salinity because am still due to get one and it came back around 1.024, I believe this is quite good but he was using one of those kent cheaper things, Is it possible its way off?

That depends. Fish only can be easily kept at 1.017-1.018 but for corals I recommend 1.024-1.026. I keep my reef at 1.026 myself as I've found the inflation seems to be better.

I have xneia corals and if it says its 1.024 I think its at an okay level for now.

Yes, that's fine, completely fine. You can keep in there for any soft corals. If you start keeping anemone or more delicate corals you might want to slowly (very slowly) raise it but you are fine for now...just fine.
