ok then, tank is going up to 22C and will monitor pond and minnows.

At current the pond is almost at tap water levels i suspect, i have had it flushing for about 3 hours now.

tank is at 22C and the heater has switched itself off.

Pond is down to tapwater levels.

Minnows are happy as ever

Ammonia-0.50 ppm (i added some plant food as they were looking a bit yellowy)
Nitrite-0.25 ppm (i guess this is the filter degrading it into nitrite)
Nitrate-20ppm

Keep an eye on the pond readings...

pond has gone down to 0.25 ammo and 0.1 nitrite thanks to a big tap run and some tlc (cleaning the weed out of the pond, cleaning the pump, cleaning 4 of the filter blocks in a bucket of pond water)

Do a very large w/c 80% at least then test again,you have excessive ammonia/nitrite,give it a good gravel vac also,you need to get these down to close as you can to zero.

And try to get the ammonia dowm more in the pond with another w/c...

thing is the ammonia came from the plant food (i only added a quarter of the reccomended dose) and it says on there that it has been mixed with something to make it non toxic

Actually, many fertilisers which supply "nitrate" will give an ammonia reading on some water tests.. this is why I do not recommend fertiliser dosing in aquaria which are not stable. Also irregular dosing will cause more problems with plants than it would fix, so it is best to either dose all the time or never at all.
