Question: it sounds like you fished some of the babies out of your pond and brought them inside? Why? If you already have them in a pond then that's the best environment for them, and you should leave them there.

I think you should put the goldfish back in the pond, all of them, and finish your fish in cycle with the minnows. Smaller bioload will be easier for the filter to handle. Get your heater out of the attic if necessary and put some fish in your tank that are actually suitable for a 100L, even if it means taking the minnows to a shop and swapping them for something else. But whatever you do, the goldfish belong in your pond, not in your tank.

i got 2 out of the pond as they were ill, i treated them and they are about 3 days away from going back now. i only take them out the pond if they are ill, treat them in a seperate tank, feed them to get some energy back and then release them again. The rest i got from either pets at home or jollyes(minnows)

Can you post a piccy of your unknown fish? It may be something tank suitable or it may be better released into your pond when you put the goldfish back out there. A picture would help.

I definitely think you need to stick to small fish which are actually suitable for a small fishtank though

i cant really get rid of the rest, theyre too cute! I could sell some off perhaps but i dont have a licence so it ewould have to be collection only though.

I will get at least 2 out today (definitely the two biggest ones)

Really? I've already tried this!

He is scared of the camera, he runs away from the glass when someone walks past.

But,
He plays around with the minnows, occasionallt flitting off to the bottom of the tank.

He has grown half an inch in a month.

He has an irridescent purple patch on him

His mouth is upturned.

And i WILL TRY and get a pic of him, if he lets me

abd tbh, the tank is a better enviroment than the pond.

My dad denies the tests saying that i put chemicals into the phials to make it show up differently but refuses to sit down with me when i try and prove this is not the case.

He only has the pond filter on for a short while (about 3 hours) every day and when i put it on for longer he shouts and lectures me about wasting electricity.

I have to look after the pond however so i dont see how that works.

I am seriously thinking of just using the rest of my money to keep the pond running 24/7 for a whole month (my dad wants £90.44 for this which handily enough is the exact amount in my bank account)

Currently i have the pond filling from the tap in a way that takes the chlorine out of the water by hitting it hard against some rocks (releasing most of the chlorine gas) and by the time i have finished the levels will be somehting like this.

You're hitting your head against a brick wall,because unless you keep the pond water quality at zero,you will continue having poorly fish in there....

Fair play you treat them in your tank but then putting them back into the pond will probably make them ill again if you dont lower those levels.

I FOUND OUT WHAT THE UNKNOWN IS!!!!

HE IS a pearl danio and a tropical so kitty kat was right all along!

And apparantly the minnows are tropical too according to my grandad

Follow up question: why did you buy more goldfish (which need to be in the pond) when your dad wont let you properly take care of the ones you already have?

i dont really know, i've got to lose them somehow though.

My dad just agreed to leave the filter on for longer at last, only took me 2 years!

Sorry if i sound hard,but the whole point of keeping fish is to look after them so they can live in a happy healthy enviroment...atm you fish are suffering because of poor water quality.

You dont need a license to sell on goldfish,whether the fish are cute or not,in the long run if you can't keep up with their care then they will be dead fish...

I understand that due to your dad not letting you run the filter properly is a bug bare,but unless its kept on 24/7 then its pointless keeping fish in there...so why not sell the goldfish and concentrate on running your small tank with small tropical fish...

I think they meant they've no driving license so can't deliver them to anyone

Edited to add: blubble: I'm honestly not trying to be mean, I know it's kind of sounding like that. I understand the urge to buy fish and care for them, but if you can't provide the correct care then you should recognise that buying them would be worse than not. I would love to have discus, but my tank is not big enough, so I am not buying them. I would love to own chickens, but at the moment there's no way I could care for them properly, so I am choosing not to own them until I can.

just a question, could the wc minnows be temperate? and could warming the tank slightly help speed up the cycle?

is this a good sign that things are getting better?

there are now 6 goldies in the tank, probably will be 4 by the end of today

WCMM can live in warmer temperatures but the goldfish may suffer if you up it...
