Good Fish To Breed

I am trying to find my way into the hobby of breeding tropical fish and i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas of fish to breed. I have already breed kribensis,peacock gudgeon,and discus. And i am wondering if anyone has any advice/tips on what fish to breed and what kind of setup to use.

What exactly is your goal in this? I think the hobbyist should choose to keep the fish that they enjoy the most, and breed them. If you are trying to sell the fish that you breed, that's a totally different ballgame. But, you have mentioned nothing in terms of the size of the tank, your tap water conditions, etc.


I really like cories, so maybe you should breed them and send me your next generation.

I am more in it for the enjoyment. I have a 28 gallon setup and a 10 gallon setup that are available for breeding purposes. And i have tapwater with a high PH and a high KH. So in my case i use Poland spring water as it has a PH of 6.0 and a KH of 2 degrees. And i would be happy to give you some offspring of cory's if i ever breed them

Hi Mark

Corys are a good starting egg layer and C. sterbai is a lovely cory that gets along well in a discus tank. Unlike most corys, they do fine in the warmer water.

Otherwise, I like to recommend bronze or albino C. aeneus as a starter cory for anyone who wants to breed. They they are easy to encourage to spawn and are quite prolific. You can see a few eggs on the side of this picture.
