Goldfish And Algea

I currently have 4 Goldfish and 3 Zebra Danios in a 20 gallon tank and would like to add an algae eater, not a pleco to the community. Will this work???

hillstream loach i think there called are good cold water algae eaters or apple snails, my uncle asked me the same so i did a little research

What temp is your tank at?
If you dont want a pleco what do you want?
Pleco are the best algae eater, many loaches dont do a very good job.
Instead of buying a fish to get rid of algae you should try to find out the cause of your algae ie to much light or not enough carbon dioxide ect
you should buy fish because you like them and not to do a job

Hello, my tank temperature is normally 73-76 degrees, and I do not want a Pleco because the slimy coat of a Goldfish has is like a meal to the Pleco, if the Pleco attaches itself to the Goldfish it is highly possible that bacteria will harm the Goldfish. I am not asking the fish to clean I just figured it could slow down the the algae formation process and enjoy the little creature in the meantime. I do have a Pleco in my other tank and he is doing great, he is with Neon Tetras and Guppies.

Chinese algae eaters CAE are the loaches that suck slime coat off goldfish nd other large slow moving fish, not plecs. Once they grow to 3in CAE aren't very good algae eaters either, despite the name.
Plecos are harmless - I had an 8in common plec which was unexpectedly dumped on me in my goldfish tank for 3 months till it was warm enough for the goldfish to go back otside and it never harmed them

Do not get chinese algae eaters whatever you do, not with goldfish.

I had some and they attacked my goldies and one of my goldies now has a lump on it's side from it

Commons will suck on the goldfish slimecoat. Bristlenose plecos are usually good with goldfish. I have one bristlenose in with my 1 fantail goldfish and so far so good. I would NEVER put a common pleco in with a goldfish though! I've heard horror stories from various people. Also, just remember you have to make sure your pleco is getting its share of food. Goldies tend to eat everything, floating, sinking whatever, plus they love veggies too!

Actually 20 for first goldfish and 10 for each after. 29G is min recommended for 2 goldfish. At the Moment the tank is over stocked so it would be ideal to hold off on an algae eater.
