Hello! I just recently got a golden gourami, and I was wanting a male. I'm fairly certain this one is female, and know I was really stupid for listening to the LFS tell me that they only stock males.
I'm doing mainly links as I am putting everything that has the gourami in it on here

Some questions I have as well..

Is it the female or males that get bigger?
Which have better coloration?
Is it only the males that blow bubblenests? I wonder this as I know some female bettas can blow bubblenests so thought maybe gourami could too.

I was under the impression that the males get bigger and have the best coloration so that is what I wanted, as it's my centerpiece fish of the tank.
I also wanted to name him Lemongrab from Adventure Time, as well, similar coloration to lemons and lemons are sour, and I've heard lots of people say golden gouramis are mean.
I also really like Lemongrab from AT, he makes me laugh. For those who don't know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOqA-S5ZNko

If this is indeed a female, I would greatly appreciate name ideas! As well as some tips on how to keep it happy.
Eats everything I've been putting in the tank, new life spectrum small fish formula, omega one shrimp pellets, algae wafers.

Could turn into a male over time. Might be too young to tell at this point.

Males get a little bit larger, but females could be equally full of color as long as they're the dominant fish in the tank. Only males make the bubblenest to my knowledge, to impress the ladies.

That's something else I meant to ask, if I can even tell right now. As it looks right now though, it does look female, right?
I imagine this should be the dominant fish in my tank, it's being housed with cories, khuli loaches, and rummynose tetras.
Thank you :D

Were the pictures taken the same day? For some reason the fins look longer in some pictures than others...

I just got it on Friday so some were taken then, and others on saturday. ;o

Hmm well time will tell, if the fins start growing much more than they are already, you'll have yourself a male. Sometimes it takes just getting them away from their peers to express their gender.

Alrighty, thank you. I will keep an eye on it :)

From the pic I'd say female (fins + shape). Gouramis love /need floating plants !.

I think so too but keeping an eye out to see how it develops. I do have some floating plants in there, though perhaps not enough? It's all in the center :p
After looking at the pics I see that you can't tell that though, and not sure if I showed it in the vids.

Needs more plants. :p Yours would love to just be immersed in plants to swim through, as well not have as much light hitting them (floating plants). My gourami is indiscriminate on real or plastic.

I know I need more :c just a matter of getting dad to buy them, also I have reallly low lighting ><

It does look like a female now. Egg spots on fins, rounded fins, etc. Observe til it matures a bit more

Forgot to add pics recently. I don't know if they're any good in determining the gender, though I still agree it's a female. Thinking of naming her Tinkerbell.

Impossible! D: When I took this picture he was in the back of the tank squished between the bridge decoration and the wall. I think. Could you be mistaking it for one of my albino cories?

Thank you for the compliments! I'm wondering if it's a bit too crowded with decorations in there but the fish seem to like exploring all of it.
