4" something like that? Surprised he got through all those fish in a night....he's by no means an adult...

Not sure if your other fish are safe...how big are the barbs, are they very young? When older they are quite large and would be okay...

Bottom line, could the remaining fish fit in his mouth...

Cherry barbs not too big so will be coming out. Golden barbs about 1.5-2", gourami bigger than that, same for the corys, although surely sev's don't go for them do they?

Trying to eat the corys would give him a nasty shock I think :) Those fins will hurt! Gourami and Golden barbs will be fine too I'm sure....

How big is the sev?

I thought more like 10-12" for a gold severum...I could well be wrong though...the smaller varieties like Rotkeils/Red Shoulders get to a max of 8"

No problems on tank size for sure, I have never had one so far so don't really know about growth rate, from what I can tell they are greedy guts so I would assume it might get full size in a year at most?

I'm waiting for about a month before I get some Rotkeils *fingers crossed*

I have read that they grow fast to 4" from then on they grow a lot slower

Generally, severums grow around 1/2" monthly upto around 6", then it slows down a little to 8", then slower still to 12" full size (males), females more around 10", thats with plenty of water changes and good food. My largest Severum is around 8" now and Ive had him since around 2", that was 16 months ago.

I saw a huge old gold severum at my lfs he is 4 yr old I would say it is 9" it's not a foot. But it's thick a very chunky fish. I think much like people it depends on genetics. Some men get to be 7 feet most don't. I think some severums can max out at under a foot. But yes they are slow growers once they hit 6".

What size did you get

Obviously not a 2" juvi....if growing up in a tank there is a far far greater chance that the existing fish would have been okay even when it is full grown but I guess you went for something a little big in the first place?

Pics of the greedy guts please!

I brought him off a member from this forum, will get pics up as soon as I can, are the corys, gourami and golden barbs safe though?
