Hi im new here.Well anyways i was planning on buying 3 blue paradise gouramis and 2 pictus catfish, and I was wondering if they would be fine in a 5 gallon tank or should i go on the safe side and buy a 10 gallon.

I'm presuming you're trolling, but just incase this is a genuine question...

Blue paradise gourami - More commonly known as the paradise fish, is a rather agressive sub-tropical fish that needs a large amount of room to allow it to keep a territory that doesn't result in tank mates being attacked all the time.
To keep more than one you're looking at the very least at getting a 3ft (30gal) tank.

For pictus catfish they should be kept in small groups and really do need a bare minimum of a 4ft tank longterm. Around the 40-50gal mark.

If you want a 5-10gal tank then you need to be looking at much smaller, much more peaceful fish. For a 5gal you're looking at fish that max out around 4cm... and/or are very docile slow swimming fish. For a 10gal if it's rectangular you can probably stock it with fish up to the 5-6cm mark... but smaller if they're particularly active fish. So even danios wouldn't really be suitable for a 10gal as they're super super active and often seem to get stressed in small tanks.

I dont apprecieate being called a troll and that is why i asked before I bought a tank and also on some places ive seen where they can go in 10 gallons which again is why i'm asking.

For the record it's nothing personal.

But often when people have...
A)Only just joined
B)Their opening post seems very very odd
C)Suggest putting fish into a tank that physically couldn't hold them fully grown

It makes you think they must be bored and trolling. Regardless, because I wasn't prejudging you :) I gave you a full honest answer.

And yes, you could keep a single paradise fish in a 10gal tank. But that is all you could keep in the tank. You wanted 3 so you'd need a much much bigger tank.

Hi and welcome to the forum :good:

Paradise fish tend to be "terrortorial" to say the least, keeping more then 1 together unless you're intending to breed them. 3 is out of the question.

You'd need a 36x18x18 to keep more then one together, with several floating and rooted plants to aid in creating seperate territories, and its still risky.

Pictus cats, about 12" with their long flowing whiskers, and superactive work well as a group, "hoovering" up the food your other fish don't eat.need minimum 20G per fish and you need min. 3 in a group.

Ok thanks well I'll rule those fish out then but I really want a gourami do you think 2 dwarfs would be fine in a 10 gallon?

Ok so I'm going to buy a 14 gallon instead of the 10 gallon do you think some dwarves would be fine in that?
