Buy conditioner for chlorine
Buy ammonia somewhere, do you have to be 18 to buy ammonia in the States?
And get terracotta pots
And possibly some slate.

Hopefully I will be able to complete this with 20 bucks. I'm relying off of grass cutting money until next friday when I get paid again. I hate getting paid every other week. Ahhhh

I don't think you have to be 18 to buy Ammonia. I've never been carded in a hardware store back when I used to buy all kinds of nasty things for printmaking class. Just don't forget to do the shake test to make sure it has no surfactants.

When you go to buy the pots you could always ask if you could get a discount on chipped/broken ones...

Can I just open the jug of the ammonia in store? I'm still thinking about getting my dad to go with me just in case. What stores can you buy ammonia in in the states? Walmart? Publix? We don't have ACE hardware in my town. I do know where one is, but it's a while away. That'll be a last resort.

you can buy pure ammonia (in solution) at most any grocery store. Not sure what ones you have down there in georgia but one of them should have it

I don't recommend opening the bottle in the store...the employees prob. won't appreciate it, and peering down inside will more than likely give you a big nasty whiff of the stuff which isn't good for you. The shake test is really more for stuff with clear/semi clear bottles. Walmart should do. Never heard of "Publix" though.

Publix I think is a southeastern thing, maybe just Florida and Georgia are the only plaes I've seen it in, that's probably why you've never heard of it though. I'll probably go to Kroger first (grocery store), then to Wal-mart then to the Publix down the road and if all else fails, I'll head over to the Ace Hardware store 20 minutes away, I'll let you know how the hunt goes.

i bought my ammonia at publix, i live in florida ;)

they were in clear containers but on was labeled bubble-free (or something like that that said it didnt make bubbles) and another just said sudsy so i tok the bubble free one and it worked for my fishless

When you do locate some ammonia the test is to shake it then open it to see if it's gone frothy. It will obviously have a few bubbles in it but if it stays frothy then it contains cleaning agent=no good for fish!

DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT  take a sniff  It will take the top of your head off

Yeh try to avoid even breathing while you have the ammonia bottle open, and keep it open for as little time as possible.
I find ammonia doesn't really have a smell, just a really strong burning sensation :|

I'm back from my travel around my town.

I found ammonia at the first place I went, then I headed to PetSmart to but some TopFin water conditioner. After that I went down the road to the Home Depot and bought me a whole 6 inch terracotta pot, I'm gonna cut it in half and have two little shelters in the tank. I added up what I spent and it was about 11 USD. So I decided I had a little cash left over that I could spend, I was using a credit card, then I went back to PetSmart because I decided I had wanted another plastic plant to try to fill out the aquarium a little more. I didn't find the medicine dropper, but my sister is going to get one from CVS (a drugstore) she'll just get one out of the pharmacy tonight hopefully.

When I get some money I'm going to be heading up to Petco where I'm going to be buying my bogwood/driftwood etc. I think it was Mopani driftwood or Malaysian driftwood. What would I have to do with those? Just boil them in water and then have them float in the tank. And what would it do to my water.

I was also looking at Petco's fish stock while I was there. The clown loaches looked very healthy, the angelfish were a toss up, some looked very healthy and some were "eh" looking. I also saw they had two dojo loaches and I'm thinking about getting 2-3 of those, since no store around me has rainbow fish. But I might not get the dojo's in the end, itll probably just be 4 clown loaches 2 angel fish and the rest would be schooling fish. What are a small colorful schooling fish that I could get that wouldn't nip at the fins of the two angels? I know tetras do, but some people say they are okay.

It's a 55 gallon. I know they will probably get too big, but when that time comes I'll just upgrade to a bigger tank. When I move out in a year or two.

I have black neons with an angel fish and they are no trouble, even the 1 colombian that can be a bit nowty wont snap at him cos hes too big - even tho hes only a baby! lol
also have golden barbs in, they are really nice fish, the colour looks great when they turn in the tank and again are no problem with the angel.
Have fun shopping on payday

sorry for the double post :/

I'm probably going to go back up to the store to buy another bag of sand just becuase I realized how shallow my sand was. I'll probably get a red colored plant too while I'm there. I just don't know yet.
