Glass shrimp/ ghost shrimp are simply a clear shrimp that occurs in rivers and in the ocean in Australia and other parts of the world. They are easy enough to keep and will feed on excess fish food, rotting plant matter, and anything else they find in the tank. They hide among the plants during the day and come out at night.
If you live in the southern half of Australia then the variety you get will live in cold or warm water. They usually occur in water with a neutral to slightly alkaline PH (7.0-7.8) but sometimes they can be found in slightly acid water (PH below 7.0).
If you caught them in a river that is influenced by tide, then it probably has salt in it and the shrimp might die when put into pure freshwater.
If you caught them in the northern half of Australia then they will be a tropical variety and don't do well in cool water (below 20C).
Don’t use copper based medications in the tank with them.
It isn’t illegal to collect them from most rivers in the country. You will only get busted if you take them from a national park/ marine reserve.
