Some will know I help look after a couple of tanks. One of them seems to have an issue with green water. I did a w/c on it today but it didn't seem to clear things up that much - only a very slight difference. Any ideas how to remove it?

I'm afraid I'm not sure about light timings or the 'W' of it. It is in front of a window, but the front faces away from it and there is a background on the back panel. It didn't use to have this issue - it's a recent thing since I gutted it out a few weeks back. Infact, aside from diatom algae, I think it was mostly algae-free.

Many Thanks

There's no magic trick to get rid of it.
I normally reduce my light hours to 6/7 hours and increase water changes.
Its does not go away straight away.
I do regular water changes every 2/3 days, at least 50%. After a week or so you should start seeing some results, but keep doing them untill its crystal clear wich should take a week more. This time frame is not a rule its just my experience with green algae.
Also be carefull with overfeeding and dirty substrate.

Light is the trigger for green water which is why it is often said that tanks should be away from windows and rooms that are very bright during the day, - conservatories etc. From what you have said it sounds like the tank has been badly positioned and with the sudden bright days we've had recently it would be normal for an outbreak of green water.

other factors include co2 and excess nutrients in the water, thus keeping a good strong powerhead or air pump running and not overfeeding or overstocking will all help minimise algae.

A long term cure would be to invest in an internal UV clarifier or even a UV filter, or cheaper still move the tank into a darker position,
short term there are many anti-algae treatments that will temporarily kill it off
