A few months ago i got a 5.5 gallon aqaurium and i cycled it with a white cloud mountain minnow. once cycled i added 4 guppies (all male). I realized this aqaurium may be small for my guppies and minnow because they are schooling fish. so im planning on getting this aqaurium ----> http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11390248&lmdn=Fish+Aquariums+%26amp%3B+Bowls ----> so they can have more room to swim and i can add more fish for them. I am drawn to this aqaurium cause it is not too wide which is what im looking for, an aqaurium which is tall would be more ideal for my space situation than one that is more long. with this aqaurium there will be more room to add more fish. i was wondering what you guys think on my choice of aqaurium and stocking ideas. regardless my 4 guppies will go into the 15 gallon once cycles, and i can use my minnow to cycle it.

my ideas

#1. add more white cloud minnows, one more guppy
#2. add one guppy, 3 white cloud minnows and some ember tetras
#3. add more white cloud minnows, red cherry shrimp and apple snails

your opinions and honesty will be greatly appreciated!!! :good:

Beautiful tank you chose.
When you put that 1 2 3 list, do you mean that as the order in which you plan to stock the tank?

In my opinion, a smallish school of white clouds, a guppy or two, 1 tetra, and a few shrimp would be a good stocking plan. Ive heard that snails breed like crazy, and you can end up with the little pest ones. Since you already have four guppies, I wouldnt recommend getting anymore. The four of them should be okay as they are. You can probably keep one or two of them in the five gallon, even.

Remember, seeing as this is only a 15 gallon, and its a tall instead of long (longs are more preferable for most fish since they have more room to swim) you cant crowd it. Ive had that problem many times, in fact, my ten gallon right now is probably too crowded. X] If you get a good filter (or two) your aquarium will be even safer and healthier for your fish.
So you pretty much just have to be careful with how many fish you want to add. Particularly with the minnows, since it sounds like you want quite a few of them. :)

Hope this helps!

AquaticHamster sounds like a good stocking plan, and those numbers were just the ideas i had in mind. I guess i don't need any more guppies as they can school with four, good point. And i would say getting more white clouds would be a very good route to take because i already have one. thanks for your advice :)

You are very welcome!

And a smallish school of ember tetras would probably be okay, since I just learned that they stay very small. XD

Good luck with your tank!

I disagree with this stocking suggestion.

White clouds are shoaling fish so need to be kept in groups of at least 8. They are also very active swimmers, this tall tank won't give them the opportunity to swim.

Tetras are also shoaling fish, again they need at least 6, preferably 8.

I suggest the following which would be much kinder to the fish:

4 male guppies
8 tetras

and possibly at a later point some shrimps or an apple snail.
