my missus has given me the ok to get a big tank for when we move into our own flat as she's having laser eye surgry before we get one as we both wont be able to afford it when we out paying over £1000 rent each month

i really like the rio 400 i think im going to keep some big cihlids ,oscars if the tanks big enough

anyone have this tank?

is there cheaper alternatives out there?

any more info would be great, ideally it would be a marine tank but i just wont be able to afford the upkeep of a marine tank this size

Hi,

I currently have the rio 125 and they are good tanks, finished nicely. I havent the room at the minute for a larger tank but will get on in the not too distant future.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, why not have a look at the king of jewul tanks, the vision 450, looks stunning with the bow front, I think it's about £90 more than the rio.

check it out on www.seapets.co.uk you may find it cheaper elsewhere, just thought I'd mention them because thats where I got mine from

Andy

hi i have a juwel 240 and i love it well made tank

ive got the rekord 70

i like the look of the bow fronts but they are loads more £££

i might look at only getting a 300 liter bow front

we have not even been to look at flats yet so i need to be realistic

will a rented flat be able to even house a tank this size its really going to be hit and miss here i might end up buying it and have no room for it

i think i need to go and look and the sizes in the shop

yes it would be wise to find out my sorta room you have for a tank they go get it

If your not over fussy about condition you can pick up some bargains if you keep your eyes peeled. Try your local tip too, its amazing some of the tanks that are thrown out because of a couple of scratches.

I got my first rio 300 for £80 is was filthy, covered in thick green slime took 3 days to clean it up! second one was about the same, and I have just found a rio 400 for £55 because its got some scratches and been painted. Bit of hard work and it will be fine (I hope lol)

yeah try gumtree and freecycle there is generally loads of good tanks and either free or cheap pn them sites :)

well if the tank is gonna be cheap they maybe try renting a van or sumthing a bit bigger to get the tank

yeah im sure i could find a way if the right bargin turns up

how steady are the stands that come with the big tanks?

are they only laminated chipboard because it would probally be better to weld opne up at work

the stand can hold the weight mate if you just gonna weld a stand think about just getting a normal tank as the juwels look nice on there stands mate but its gonna be your tank

yeah my lfs sell big tanks but have no lids and im crap with diy but they are cheap

i dont really know what to do

spend loads and have a proper nice tank or get a cheap tank and have the hassle of getting lights etc and that could work out more expencive

well when you buy a juwel you get most of the stuff with it to run it i.e the lights filter and heater but if you buy a tank with out that stuff its sure gonna put the price up on your tank so in the end there is only one choice and thats yours
