 eww Eel things  i would keep a silver awana ( or how ever its spelt ) but never soem type of eel.

My mom had one and when she tryed to catch it to take it back to the LFS it jumped out of the net and Slithered on the carpet  And she then caugh t it put it in a bucket and took it to the LFS :)

I Like tohse little fish with the black/white strips

what are they? and how big do they grow

( i wanted a Yellow lab but i think i might over stock my tank with one  )

They are frontosa and are dying on me, they are african (lake tang) cichlids, males can reach 16", females 14", need to be in groups, preferably single species tank, 1m, 3f ratio and preferably a 6ft tank.

Yes bichirs can live on land for several hours, lovely fish, nothing ewww about them.

Wow..

7 hours?

you'll be fine if the tank leaks then :p

Do you know how big Yellow labs can grow?

And Sorry for your losses.. Why are they dieing??

Several hours, not necessarily 7!

Yellow labs are african and wont mix with what you currently have, I believe and Im not sure but reach 4", check out the species profile in the african section.

I put the frontosa deaths down to the fact that my ph/hardness levels arent high enough for them, being african, they prefer a ph above 8.0 and hard/alkaline water, my ph wont go over 7.8 and is fairly soft.

Soft? I Have hardy water and thats a shame :/ They look Realy nice.

And my bad

Saying that.

What happioned to your newest Sev? :good:

Went to stevem, when I rehomed most of the other fish to make way for the frontosa set up, he has a 7ft tank, I only kept the others as they were going to a new tank I was going to buy so the frontosa would be a single species tank, but that is obviously now not going to happen as I wont be buying anymore to replace the ones that died, as they obviously dont like my water and they are expensive fish to lose.

Thanks Minx :D Still uber jelous of your Sev he really is gorgeous!!! Cant believe you lost one of those fronts they look healthy in those pics :/ I had a near miss this morning with my new pictus, one of them decided to swim up the filter pipe and got stuck.... he now has pink eye but seems pretty happy other than that lol stupid fish.

:/

I Hate that. My mom brought elephant fish for her 120 Gallon.

she spent £50 on the two of them at the time and they only lasted two weeks.

Thanks Wills, I actually lost 3 of the fronts, the two in the first pic with the geo's are the only ones left, the one in the pic with the single geo you can see is losing colour, that was the last to go, they just seem to suddenley fade colour and die!

I am so sorry to hear you are loosing your fronts, those new ones are absolutely gorgous!!!

Minx your tank and fish (as always) are stunning.

Shame about the fronts, maybe just a bad batch? :(

Concidering (from what i think i remember) they didn'nt Come with a heat pack. So its a possiblity that they could of lived under bad living conditions?

Mags, just a suggestion. What if I took your fronts and put them with mine till they were bigger? see if the remaining 2 survive, it seems a shame to let them die if your tank isnt suiting them. Maybe when they are bigger they would cope better? I would offer to buy them but you know my situation.

Or I have some Juvi Ellioti, you could have some of those and grow them on and sell them to cover the cost of the fronts?

What size are the Ellioti now? Would need to be big enough to cope with my stock, if they are big enough, then I would swap you the remaining two fronts for some Ellioti, as yes, I would rather they went where they would survive rather than die off slowly and Ellioti would go with my current stocking. Let me know hon :) We could do the swap when you come to collect the gravel.
