I once owned this little boy, this isn't the best picture but my personal website with all the pics got hacked and I haven't got round to fixing it yet.

He was silver, I named him Gin, I had him for about 3 years in the end (he didn't stay in that crappy plastic tank either), I called his colour platinum copper mask. He had no colour other than slight red wash in his anal fin, and was so so shiny, very very silver.

Now how the hell did his colour happen? One day, if i'm in the position to breed, I'd love to try and recreate that. I found him by chance, with that tail damage, in Wildwoods one day. He was the only copper anything there, the rest were plain old blue VTs, clearly not spawn siblings.

How did he happen? How would you go about breeding that colour?

I have never seen a VT copper b4. That would probably be up there on my list of favorite betta types. You always see copper CTs and HMs. I'm jealous. You don't have any other pics of him atm eh?

Bump. I don't know the answer to your question but I know there are some here that do. ;)

he wasn't a VT, he was an SD or D, his tail never grew back to work it out! here's another pic I found. I can't get to my personal site which has all the pics on, and the others are on my desktop computer which is currently at my dads, doh!

shame his tail never came back. he is very unique to other coppers i have seen. wow....

Im not even sure Id call it straight copper, it almost looks platinum with a red copper undertone.

if you want another one like him I would cruise aquabid.

when I get my desktop back at the weekend i'll get some more pics.

and aqua bid is not an option, i'm in the UK, no import for me without that licence. stupid DEFRA.

here's a video of him, don't know why the video is so pink though, must have been the lighting. he was impossible to take pictures of, he'd dance like that whenever you went near the tank let alone taunted him with a pen! he never flared though, he tried, but i don't think he knew how, just how do dance!

that was the hospital tank, he later went on to a nice mature filtered 5 gallon.

oh, and I wailed all evening when he died, very upset I was! he was always very small for a betta, possible a freak runt of the litter maybe?

He was just so cute! My male betta doesn't dance like that. He just swims up the the glass and looks at me like, "What do you want?"

Oh, hey! I was just browsing on ebay, and I came across a silver male betta! There wasn't much time left on it, so I bought it. >_> I'll try to get a camera soon, so when it arrives I can post pictures of it. Then you can let me know if it's like yours was. I'm all excited now!! :hyper:

ok well im a bit late to this game as there have been alot of people already replied to this thread.

as for the creating of the copper gene:
it is when you breed a pair of fish that share compatible genes. in this case copper is created when you breed a fish with 2 mettalic genes with a fish who has a steel gene.

in the first spawn you will probebly cross a metalic fish with a steel fish. thus giving you fry with both steel and metalic genetic make ups. you would then select a suitable breeder from the group of fry and cross it back to the metalic parent. giving you most likley copper fry. or at least a small percentage of copper. you would then cross two of the copper fry to strengthen the copper appearence in the next spawn and continue the pattern.

i hope i have helped.

Piggy, he's a cutie! He's more blue and has cellophane-a-like fins which Gin didn't have, but a stunner none the less! Are you a breeder? He'd make some pretty babies. He looks like a copper marble.

Community Beginner - would that create silver-like coppers, or more along the lines of the more common bronze-copper (which I also once had, he was pretty too!).

I have bred my pair once, I don't think that makes me "a breeder" though :p There would be a chance of me trying to breed him in the future though. Once I free up my other 10 gallons. Right now, I have a Jack Dempsey and a Jewel cichlid in those tanks that I need to find homes for. There is a link in my signature to the thread that talks about that though.

This is my copper male Sygun. Coppers are made up of all the colours which is why when you spawn them you can end up with throw backs of other colours. We spawned him with a copper female and were lucky enough to end up with 20 copper babies.

You can see especially in his caudal fin the range of other colours showing through. The babies we had varied in these colours from pink, red and black.

Sygun - he's a stunner!

So what would happen if you bred a copper with a cellophane or opaque?
