My ph is about that and I've had neons and corys in it for years. They do adapt. Don't mess about bringing it down, that causes more problems because it's very difficult to keep it stable, and a swinging ph will do more damage than one which is too high or too low.

One male dwarf gourami for a tank that size.

You could have as many shrimp as you like - they breed fairly rapidly by themselves and don't add much to the bioload of the tank. If you get overrun, sell them back to an lfs. But shrimplets make a tasty fish snack anyway.

Honey gouramis are great, you can get the grey/yellowy wild version occasionally or the bright yellow or bright red variants. I would keep a group of 4 in that tank.

Personally, I wouldnt be keeping cichlids in the tank with community fish if its about 60cm/2ft, its not a huge ammount of floor space and might make them more territorially aggressive to other fish.

Honey gouramis, sparkling gouramis (can get 8-10 as they are tiny) or croaking gouramis are all good!

You will want to split fish over three levels.. your neons are mid level swimmers... so you need top and bottom dwellers...

What you go for is up to you and will depend on the design of your tank

If it was me, i'd get lots of bogwood and plants in there (with rootball fertilizers and liquid plant food)... Sand substrate if possible but will work with gravel.

Id have:

4 x Yellow Honey Gouramis (2 male, 2 female)
10 x Neon Tetra
10 x Copperline Harlequin
3 x Otocinclus
6 x Algae Shrimp
3 x Asassin Snails

And if I could squeaze more in later on (i always have heavily planted tanks so water is spot on)

Then i would also add 4-6 Sparkling Gouramis as well and a few Cherry Shrimp to go with the Algae Shrimp, it would really depend on set up and type of filtration because personally, id have an external filter. I find cherry shrimp just dissapear into internal filters....

Yes, but it's best if you do not. Messing with pH and KH often causes a lot of problems and results in deaths.

It's not like you can add them all at once anyway. Pick what you want in the most and start from there, give it a few weeks and see what you want to add then. There's no reason to have it set in stone so soon.

Assassin snails work well if you have a pest snail problem but serve little purpose otherwise.

gah, apperantly i can't get cherry shrimp legaly in adelaide -.-' i might start on getting the julii cory's than...4 then another 4 a week later if all tests are good?

Hmm i found out that my LFS had panda cory's after al and decided on them. I only got 2 then but am getting more ASAP as i know they love to be in groups.
They are happy and swimming in the bubbles that my filter makes, its so cute xD My neons and them are all eating fine- the neons are pigs - and all my tests are normal.

My new stocking list that i would like is-
10 neons
8-10 panda cory's
2 red honey gouramis.

would any more noens fit in the tank?
And my LFS said that he can only get red honey gouramis at certain times -.- so might take awhile to get all my stock in there

If you feel confident enough to do it, try to get them up to 6 before the end of the week, then it should be fine to go as slowly as you want.

That depends on your set up, it's best if you get the rest of the fish, then see how *you* feel about it.

Make sure you get no more than one male. It is quite likely that the LFS will not know how to sex them, so it is very important that you do before you go to pick them up. Even if the LFS does claim to know, it's still your responsibility to know everything about the species before you get it, which includes sexing. In the long run, you may want to consider increasing the stocking to 1m 2-3f for these fish.
