Ok so let's start off by saying I know I've been an idiot, I went and bought a second hand tank without seeing any of it running.
I got home and realised that there was a fuse in the tank so I took it out and put it to one side. Turns out that nothing in the lid works without this fuse. The part that screws in the fuse is missing and the woman I bought it off can't find it!! So I've been trying to hold it in with duct tape and blue tac and all sorts.

Can anyone tell me what the part looks like that im guessing screws in so I can try to find one to buy.
I have contacted all pond solutions and according to them it isnt needed eventhough NOTHING works without the fuse being held in at just the right position..which this part does.

Or can anyone give me any ideas on how to hold it in if I can't find the part. If not im a little bit screwed and just wasted £200 :'(

Hello,

If the type indicated above is not what you are looking for then could you supply a picture or two? These might help in identifying exactly what you need.

Bodge99.

Yep im from the UK ;-) it does look like what im looking for I might try it but the socket it goes in looks more like a screw in im not sure. Here's some pics anyway ;-)
And thanks

It's currently working with tinfoil and blue tac..but surely thats an accident waiting to happen :'(

yes I would say it is, sooner you get get sorted the better, if by some chance APS use special fuse holders, ( but I doubt it ) might be worth contacting them to see if they can send you a replacement, their customer service is pretty good from my experience

Yeah I've emailed them and he replied saying he had been told it isn't needed and that they don't supply spare parts. But nothing at all in the lid (lights, filter and plug sockets for filter and heater) do not work without the fuse being in place so there is some mis communication somewhere within the company. Either that or im going mad lol ;-) I'll try to order one recommended.

Hmm seems like someone needs to gen up on the equipment their selling, if there is no need for it, why is it there. lol, at least it will only cost you a couple of quid to hopefully fix, if that one does not fit do you know anyone that could replace the complete fuse holder, just a case of removing control panel and soldering a new holder in place.

There is an electrical shop that the pet shop recommended not too far away..i wish I could remember the name! But ok thanks I'll keep that in mind because I was considering buying a new hood if it doesnt work. Yet more money! Still mostly my fault for not checking! :'(

I don't think a new hood will be necessary, for anyone with experience its a five minute job, just two wires to solder and will only cost a few quid  I should think, a whole lot cheaper than a new hood, might be worth asking if there's anyone near you that could do it, anyone thats repaired PC's etc should be able to do it. good luck hopefully the cap will work, keep us posted

I concur looks like a screw-type fuse holder. You could diy an alternative fuse holder with some skills but I recommend leaving that someone with some leccy knowledge. The maplin one should fit, the bit you screw in makes a bridge between the fuse and a contact near the mouth of the opening.

Now having said that, please please pay attention to this: you are currently bridging this using unrated tinfoil and blue tack. This presents a fire risk and a health risk if you come into contact with that foil whilst the unit has power. Please, please, unplug the tank until you can get a better solution? Drilling it out and soldering flex directly to the supply would be better than what you have right now.

Ok well you seem to know alot more about it than me. I'll unplug it all then and order the one from maplins then;-)
Thanks everyone! All I've done is worry about it for 24 hours!

In the event the Maplin one has size issues to fit correctly, there will no doubt be raving looney mad electronic geeks within spitting distance of you that will be able to do a bit of soldering and dremeling to get the new one to fit.

It works!!! Had to unscrew it all and screw out the snapped fuse holder, snap off the soldering and put in the new one. Hooked it up using some copper wire instead of solder (I dont have a soldering iron) and screwed it all back in and it works!!
My pleco looks happy to finally have some light- he rushed straight behind the slate lol ;-)

Some mighty good work there and glad to hear you have moved on from the tinfoil ;)

Ask around your more male, more gimpy geeky friends, you will be surprised one will more than likely have a soldering iron and solder and be happy to help you out for free. If you are near Dundee I'll happily offer.

glad its worked for you, just a word of warning, you really do need to get the wires soldered on, it maybe working but if you have just twisted the wires onto the terminals they may not have a very good contact, loose contacts will generate heat and eventually could catch fire, soldering them will give a good solid contact and avoid any risk. please please please if you can get someone to solder them ASAP it will be much safer.
