It would probably have some effect on the position they swim in but it is unlikely that they would flip completely upside down.
Having said that, many lviebearers, guppies in particular, will swim with the light above them regardless of where the light is actualy positioned so you never know.
This is why when people talk about keeping guppies in tanks without lighting I start to worry. IME, if you keep guppies in a tank with the only source of light coming from the window accross the room for example, they all start to swim sideways. If the tilt is only slight then it usualy doesn't cause problems but if it's significant, many health problems can arise as the fish needs constantly to move its body and fins in an unatural way to retain that position.
It might be interesting to try making the hood very dark and putting a light source under the tank and then blocking out the light from all other sides to see if guppies would start swimming upside down.
