i already have 4 fry, about 2 1/2 months old in a breeders trap and i woke up this morning to see a lot more fry swimming aroud in the tank. When i netted them all, there were 14 and they look really big, compared to the one time i've seen new born fry.
i think they are guppy fry, but if they were, wouldnt they be smaller if they were new born? and they have to be new born as there is no way i would have missed them if they were there before.

so i have all the fry in the breeders trap, could they be platy fry, since they are so big? although my platy doesnt look like shes dropped any?

Without a pic,i'd be guessing , but guppy fry are normally bigger than platy fry :)

Ah, they are guppy fry for sure. :)

I presumed as platys are bigger their fry would be. Sorry for the mistake there. But as for id'ing them... they are definitely guppys.

are they newborn then? i assumed that the other fish in the th=nk would have eaten the if they weren't? they look quite big, not much smaller than my 2 month old ones

is there something wrong with my older fry then, they are over 2 months old, almost 3 now and they are still only about 1-2 cm long?
they have no colour and i noticed 2 of them doing a weird kind of wiggling backwards?

Your guppies, these ones, are at least a week old and probably a bit more.

i have some more questions (sorry guys  )
so the fry have just about doubled in size now and a few of them have different shaped tails.
one was a pintail which has just died from not being able to swim, this is a genetic thing and should be culled yes?

another has a lyre-tail shaped tail, like the whole middle of the tail has been cut off down to the base, did the other fry rip it or is it a lyre-tail guppy? neiher of the paresnt are lyre-tail.

a few others have thin long tails, looks a bit like they are halfway between normal and pintails and they hold their top fins against theirs backs unlike the very healthy fry who spread out all their fins and look in perfect shape.

there is also one more fry that either having a very large poop or is pooping half its guts up. it doesnt look healthy whatever its doing.

thanks again and sorry for all the questions
