Well, I had planned to breed my new boy with my cambo girl, and it kinda happened early by mistake. All my female's were well conditioned, and the one best suited was just to be picked and the male to get ready. So, on Wednesday morning I received my male HM and left him to settle in for the night and added a girl on Thursday before I left to go out for the day/evening. Little rascal of a girl must've jumped from the breeding tank that was floating in with the male[planned to leave her there for a week and try her out of it to see what the reaction was] and into the tank with him! On Friday morning when doing my rounds feeding I caught them wrapping!

The First-timers weren't doing very well, but managed a good few wraps after a couple of hours, which I saw happening, saw the eggs falling, being collected and blown into the nest.
Tonight, about 5 minutes ago I've just seen one fry falling and being collected by the daddy :hyper: I know its only one so far, but I'm soooo excited! Just hope my Microworm culture will take hold soon for Day 3 or else I'll be trying to find an alternative! It was never supposed to happen so soon, but it's lovely to see! Just hope all is successful!

Buttercup - Yeah, it definitely was - next time I plan on floating a breeding tank I'll have to find a lid

Was lovely with how well they went together, the female was helping build a nest and everything. Very sweet and gentle spawning.

It's always nice to have something that wasn't planned go so well. Will have to post a pic of mum, dad and the babies. x

Will get picks of babies if all goes well and when they are free swimming!

Yup, there's well more than one! They're falling non-stop, poor guy has to swim about frantic to catch them all.

May seem like a silly question, but is it alright with the light off? Will he still be able to see them to collect them?

There are conflicting views on whether or not to turn the lights off. I always leave them on just to be on the safe side!

ETA: Congrats on the fry! :) I just had eggs hatch yesterday. It's so freakin' exciting, isn't it?!!

I have night lights on in the fish house cause in the natural environment there is nearly always some sort of moonlight, never pitch dark.

Well done to both parents and it looks as though dad is going to be kept very busy for some time :good:

Congrats on the fry. I always feel sorry for poor dad having to swim up and down all day long for 3 days straight but they have alwats done their job well.

I always leave my tank lights on until they are free swimming

Thanks guys.

I've stuck a night light on next to the tank for the little guy, I had turned the light off for about 10mins there, and when I went in to put the night light on he was over the other side of the tank and not paying any attention to the nest while loads of fry were falling...

Will hope for the best however.
