right well i set the tank up today using water from my main tank and the filter sponge from it to.

well lets say it didnt got to plan as the filter i had i filled it with noodles and sponge from my main tank, got it started in the water which was a very very fast flow i thought (newbie here people) it would be ok, so carried on, when all was at temperature i was ready for the fry.

i no some people will go mental at me for adding fry to the tank so soon but my thinking is water and media from main tank would be fine without cycling as some has said in a past post of mine.

well the fry went in and BAM trying to swim all over the place and being pushed around by the filter, well i can stand for that so i had to think and act fast as didnt want media bacteria to die or the fry so turned off the filter and went in search for a tub.

i remembered the sponge filter in 5 mins post so went searching and found it, so using gravel from main tank i made one, i dont think i have put enough gravel in the tub as its now on a 45 degree angle but its working

shame i had to cut my gravel vac pipe up to use for the uplift tube, a small sacrifice really..

Haven't you got a plastic breeding tank to put her in quick, so that you know she won't eat any. Otherwise you may not have any left..

Looks awesome, Small price to pay cutting up your gravel vac

A newly established tank that uses a mature sponge filter will be fine for fry. High flow in a fry tank is never desirable, it makes it too hard for the fry to avoid the filter suction. As you have said, sacrificing a bit of your siphon as a lift tube is not a big deal as long as the remaining siphon is long enough to use. Even though you have established a decent filter system in your new tank, if you feed heavily, as is often suggested for new fry, you will still need to do lots of large water changes.

just about to to one now on day two lol

lots of food laying on the floor and thats just from last night and today

need to add more stones to the filter as still trying to lift off lol

I think if you add your molly then she will gobble a few of the existing fry.

I have also got a little fry tank that was housing some Kribensis babies but they have gone now so i am going to cover my filter with a pair of tights and then add some swordtail fry. I think they are big enough to not get sucked up but you can never be too careful!! :)

Good luck with your fry and future fry. :good:

yeah the intake on my old filter was not the prob it was the flow rate it came out of the thing was just way to fast but this filter now, the one i made is fantastic and doing a great job

good luck for yours also.

all fun and games :)
