Fry Getting Sucked In The Filter?

Tights in what women wear on the legs  ,if you cover up the intake, this will stop the fry being sucked right into the filter,i have done this on my fry tank filters, and held in place with an elastic band, you may need to check it every so often if the filter slows, has the debris sticks to the tights, but its better than having you're fry sucked up.

Normally sponge filters are run off air pumps, but you have a power filter type.
Well yes my filter is different but the problem is that i dont have anyone in my house who wears tights so can you suggest me something else and are you sure that covering the suction part of the filter will not spoil the working of my filter?

Be aware that using tights will cause more pain than them being sucked straight in and having a quick death...

If the fry go near it, even with tights on it will just suck them in and they will stick to the tights and will possibly not be able to get free.. (does nobody think anymore on this forum?)
I have thought about it what you are saying and instead of of putting tights i am putting a plaster which somewhat stretchy like tights but less stretchy then the tights and i think that that will work out well.I am planning to cover the area which is used for suction to cover it with the plaster. Please tell me if my idea is wrong.

A plaster with an open weave to it should work fine as long as it does not release any chemicals into the water.

I think i will make the plaster warm and put in hot water so that it get somewhat sterilized and this will work fine as far as i think.

Well actually i beg to differ,i have used tights over my filter in both my livebearer and cory fry tanks and have never lost a fry through being stuck to the tights. Thats my opinion,i have used this and it has proved successful for me,(please don't insinuate that i dont think before i write something,-when i have found its proved ok for me)

Exactly, your filter is not his, and it worked for you, its not about you, its about him.

You gave bad advice, "why" you told him to do something that worked for you on your filter, without knwoing the power of his filter and what its capable of, nobody even mentioned testing it, ie putting the tights on and seeing how powerful the suctions still was by using something equivilant to what a fry would be (like a little piece of plant stem or summat) and seeing if the filter was poweful enough to keep it stuck to it meaning the fry would not have a chance.

People dont think on here lately, they jump straight in with advice before thinking possobilites through, just like other and yourself have, and then it takes someone (in this case me) to point out that there are other factors to think about first.

People need to remember that personal things they have done and whats worked for them, is with thier own equipment, fish, and anything they use... and seem to forget everyone has different things...

All im saying is think about it completely and give them not just the best advice possible, but also all posibilites that could happen, in this case, this needed testing for caution reason (for the fry) before just saying yeah do that cos it worked for me.. other factors like his filter power etc should of been taken in to consideration.

Anyone who reads this, always test something and make sure its well suited for what u want it to do for your own good and the good of the fish/fry.

And to others who gave advice, always find out as much detailed info as possible before jumpin in and telling them to do summat.

Sorry - but what makes you the expert and critise on what people say and do,we all have opinions and ways of doing things, the OP can take or leave advice, and try it for themselves if they want...

Thats the whole point of people putting their different opinions and ways of doing things surely...

Fair enough you may have kept fish alot longer than some, but don't knock people for saying they don't think!!

Anyhows,if you read the post properly,i wasn't telling him to do it,thats his choice,i was answering his question about tights.

So where does it at any point tell them to run a test first? point that out to me and il admit ive jumped the gun?

Nothing makes me the expert, i just try to help, im just pointing out nobody gave him the advice that was very IMPORTANT.

As for you taking it personally again, thats your issues, not my intentions

Well considering you put in brackets, people dont think on here, yes i am taking it personally, has you are referring to what people basically write it utter garbage and what you say is gospel.

Like i say i didnt tell him to try, only what i do with tights.

I'm saying no more on the matter has i don't want a slanting match

To quote "people dont think on here lately" may I suggest you take some of your own advice Livebearer. There are no strict guidelines to fishkeeping and there are varied ways, the tights method is a regular on here and it depends how you use with the particular filter you have and how it is adapted as to whether it is going to be useful or not. I agree different things work for different people but ideas and suggestions need to be forthcoming to get that inspiration or right formula working. You have a point in there it is just in a insulting manner.

Well thats very well written and i think as i am not having tights at my house so the question is out of mind so i am planning to put a plaster which will work good for me. Thanks a lot to you sir and to all others.

Well i hope the problem is solved now and i am very thankful to each one of you. May god bless you all and may your fish thrive for long.
