Frustrated.. Loaches Not Doing Well.

Well, I did another water change this morning. :( Lost a zebra loach last night. I also added the media from the other tank into this one.

Well, I have lost all of my Zebra loaches, one of my new bushy nose plecos, and all but one of my YoYo loaches. I have also lost one of my small Turquoise Rainbowfish.

I've been doing daily 80% water changes (missing one day). I feel horrible. I've got media from my other tank in this filter as well.

I can only sympathise I'm afraid. I think you've done the best you can with the limited info you have on what the problem with them is. After all, if you don't know what's causing the problem, (and you've certainly tried hard to find out!) what else could you do? I hope you find some answers soon and I'm sorry I can't help.

Thanks Myrtle! It's been a trying day. Last night came home to three more fish dead (1 loach, 1 plec & 1 rainbowfish). Today power was out due to a snow storm and the remaining fish are still alive now (I've been gone all day).

Could you contact your water supplier to see if there's been anything added recently or work done? Maybe they could give you an up to date water quality report? At least that would rule something out...

The water is my own... well water.

Don't know much about well water.
I would do a thread in tropical discussion about well water.

You need to test the well water in ph, nitrite, ammonia, also maybe heavy metals.
Also well water can carry parasites.
Do you run the hose before adding it to the tank, to clear the pipes throw.

Do any fish show these signs.
Darting, erratic swimming, turning upside down, excess mucas, greyish film on fish, or milky substance on fish.

I wouldn't advise 70% water changes, it's to much. It can alter tank temp to much.
You can only get away without water conditioner when preforming very small water changes.

Also need fresh water stats.
The only problem is that bad water quality can show the symtoms you are describing.
Laboured breathing, swim bladder, heavy breathing.

The water is the only thing I can think of that could be causing it. Perhaps something has leached into the water feeding the well? Is there farmland near you? Could some pesticide or herbicide have got into the water table?
