I always wondered what is better, frozen or freezed dried food? I have only ever used frozen, but I have got mixed comments on both. I'm wondering if it is just a personal preference thing or is it about a varity of both?

I've only used freez dried food once, my fish seem to like frozen food better

Depends what you fish take to most, and I suppose a mixture of foods is good :good:

There is an interesting article in tis months PFK magazine regarding this. It says that frozen food isn't as nutritional as flake food due to its moisture content and doesn't have any added nutrients like flake and pellets... It colours my fish up alot quicker than flake does though... :/

In theory, that should be true, but only if you feed the same frozen all the time. In the wild, the fish would eat maybe 50-1000 different species of live foods, and would nibble on plants as well, thus getting a balanced diet which most frozen foods can't provide. On the other hand, if you grow your own live foods, you know what the food is eating.

I would say that a varied diet is a factor in maintaining good fish health. My fish go mad for frozen foods... and live brine shrimp sends them into a frenzy. But I only feed these things occasionally, I use a good quality flake food as their main, but then every few days I will change it and feed something different, like a frozen food, or live, or pellets/wafers/jelly/freeze dried and every so often I feed them squashed up peas. Feeding them this way, there's less chance of them becoming deficient in any necessary nutrients and avoids them becoming constipated (which can happen if fed on bloodworms for too long).

i feed all types of food, including frozen and freeze dried. i currently have freeze dried tubifex, which comes in a little blue box, i think its interpet, not sure. anyways, it lasts forever, one small block is plenty for my tank, id say theres probably at least 25 blocks in the pack, and i only use it once a week or so. cost about 4 quid. my fish love it, it spreads through the whole tank, some floats, some doesnt, everybody gets a bit of food come floating by where they are.

interpet, or whoever makes it, do a range of freeze dried foods, ill try something different when the tubifex runs out. it really depends on fish. lots of people rave about feeding prawn to their fish. i tried it and none of my fish were remotely interested.

Thanks for the info Kitty Kat.

Cucumber and courgette is also a firm favourite with mine. They like shelled peas too.
