A couple of nights ago I witnessed two of my transcriptus julies doing what appeared to be some sort of mating dance in the rocks, their movements around each other looked really cool, they were circling about an inch apart, one with fins flared, the other bent in a S shape and shimmying towards the first. Thought to myself, I could have a go at breeding these guys so ordered an eheim 2215 filter so I could set my old 29 gallon tank back up and move them over.
Today I had to take one of the comps I got last week back to the shop, which eventually entailed removing nearly all the rocks from the tank so I could catch it. An hour and a half later I got back and started putting all the rocks back in the tank. Unfortunately, under one of the rocks that I took out, I found a clutch of about 50 green eggs about 1mm accross, which I'm pretty sure were laid by the julies They had been out of the water in a bucket the whole time. Fingers crossed they will try again soon!
Feel so gutted that I didn't see them when i took the rocks out
