Yeah its an aequidens diadema and he is beautiful. Used to be Wills' but he now lives with star4 and I kept saying I would get pics the next time I was over, so today whilst dropping Vinny off, I took these.

Sometimes called a royal acara too (so I found out) Bailey is just gorgous and I love him to bits grown too since I had him.

lovely fish i have heard about them but
only seen them in books bonny looking fish

That's a stunner, wierdly though doesn't look anything like any pics that come up on google.

Is he a mix of blue and royal?

I couldnt tell you, Wills will have to give you an answer on that, I do recall him saying it was wild caught though.

Yes Wills told me Bailey was wild caught. Most of the pics I have seen on the net just dont compare to seeing one for real, the colouration is awsome, from what I have read and been told the females are duller in colour but Bailey can show a fantastic metalic dark green belly, most noticed when the female Ellioti was in the tank and the few days before the Rotties spawn. Me thinks I need to get a female :hey:

Either way he is one stunning looking fish and you are one very lucky lady!!

Very nice Star4, I've never seen these around in LFS...I think I'd snap one up if I did!

I dont think they are easily available because they are more aggressive then other acara species, I know Will had problems with Bailey killing other fish, I must admit athough beautiful its a bit of a devil, non of the other fish in the tank really go near Bailey including the Texas!, but he has learnt to behave now with me wagging my finger and saying "Bailey NO Naughty fishy" I am indeed truly lucky and blessed to have such a wonderful character.

Awww cool :) you would pick the week I am on holiday to post pics haha.

Yeah this one is Wild caught, came in a mixed bag of acaras. Went to check them out and managed to find him. He was the only Diadema all the others were A.Patricki (spelling) aka the saddle cichlid. As said they have a bit of a nasty side to them I lost a lot of fish to this one which was ultimatley why I had to move him on to Star I was more than happy to do it though as my tank was getting limited with the stock I could put in and any addition was too much of a risk for it to be fair. She managed to kill a geophagus altifrons/abialos in a day and took out a full school of adult blue tetras and mid sized red rainbows..... bit of a nightmare lol.

For people thinking about various Acaras now I cant stress how varied all the acaras are there are a lot of gorgeous ones out there but the most common are obvs the Green Terror and Blue Acara but so many families and species now available like Burgiquina (Spelling) and Krobia etc. Dont dismiss them all out of hand because of one species reputation. I for one really want some Krobia sp. Rio Xingu but hard to source atm for me but Ill be working on it haha

Gorgeous fish! i'm sure i saw something similar to this in a fish shop, labelled as a clown acara. not 100% sure should have written the name down. Google says there aren't any clown acaras tho...
