are these good tanks? ive found 1 on a website for £215

it comes with ...

Fluval U4 internal filter
2 x 36" 30 watt GLO fluorescent lighting
200 watt Fluval Tronic heater
Nutrafin Care Pack (LCD thermometer,100ml Nutrafin Aqua Plus & Cycle. 26g Nutrafin Tropical Flake food).
Fluval Step-by-Step guide

is this a good tank to get me started? would i need an external filter instead of the 1 provided?

i forgot to mention the £215 is for just the tank , no stand

Seems a good price, is the tank new?

Fluvals are good tanks along with juwels as well, I personally prefer Juwels but there isnt much difference between the two, they tend to have very similarly designed tanks.

Regarding the filter, its up to you. An external would no doubt benefit both yourself and your tank but theres the extra expense. Externals are usually easier to maintain and generally need maintaining less often than internals. The internal supplied will do the job ok providing the tank is moderately stocked. Companies who sell tanks as a package only tend to include filters which will 'just about manage' so dont plan on heavily stocking the tank.

Have you got any ideas regarding stocking yet?

yeh its brand new , not sure if i can put links up so i wont

i think i will get an external filter when i have the money for 1 (have to find money for the tank first)but that 1 will do for the time being

havent got a clue about stocking yet id love to go marine but i dont think id manage ive never had fish before , im just going to have a look around while the tank is cycling (when i get it)

You are ok to put links as long as they dont link to another forum I believe. If its somebody like www.seapets.co.uk or something like that then your fine :good:

Are you planning on a fishless cycle?

Personally I would like to go marine at somepoint but I wouldn't advise you to yet as they are alot harder to look after, I would advise you to go tropical so you get some basic knowledge, experience and get to see what work is required to keep a healthy tank on a daily / weekly basis

Its a good learning curve. I'm looking to hopefully get a 7ft tank in the not too distant future so I was thinking marine but not decided yet

http://www.aquariumsdelivered.co.uk/catalo...nly-p-1158.html thats the 1

yeh gonna do a fishless cycle ive been told its a lot easier , i think i will go tropical first then wouldnt want to spend all that money on marine and end up with everything dying on me

7foot :hyper:  i wish i could afford something like that lol

Yes, quite a few people have used aquariumsdelivered, seems to have had some good reviews.

I am looking at moving house soon so hopefully then I want a LARGE tank lol, I was looking at NDaquatics, they do custom builds. For a 7ft tank with cabinet it was about £720 so not too bad, but then would need a couple of very good externals lol.

I would certainly agree with going tropical route, you may find in 6 months that you dont even enjoy it so its a good start for a learning curve. There are plenty of bright, colourful and wonderful tropical fish about so I'm sure you will find many you like lol

What are you planning on putting the tank on? you not purchasing the stand for it? it will need a sturdy base as a rough guide to weight is about 1kg per litre of water so that tank would weigh 200kg + weight of empty tank + weight of gravel. Probably in excess of 250kg or quarter of a tonne lol

This is the Fluval Roma 125. Obviously a bit smaller but comes with the stand and only £150! I bought one 4 weeks ago and it comes with the same sort of package as you listed...

that looks like a real bargain i might get that instead , do you think its a good size for a first tank? 2 and a half feet i think it is

what stocking would you suggest if i got this?

I looked everywhere when I first searched for a tank. Compared to everywhere else I was amazed by the £150 price tag. The Fluval U3 filter sells for £35-£40 on its own!

I dont know if it's a 'good' 1st tank, but it's my 1st tank and I'm very happy with it :good:

As for stocking, I'm just a beginner so cant offer much advice. I've simply been going to my local lfs, making lists of the fish that interest me, then researching them to see if they are suitable.

Both the 200 and 125's would be good first tanks. I'd personally go for the 200 if you can afford to pay the extra for a stand as it will need something strong and sturdy.

I have a 125L Juwel tank and it is fine, but the advice is go for the biggest you can house / afford as bigger tanks are easier to keep stable.

ive got a strong table , id just need polystyrene (not sure how to spell it lol) under the tank as the top of the table is tiled

Depending on the structure of the table it may need re-inforcing as a 200L tank would weigh over a quarter of a tonne. Cabinets are specially designed to absorb the weight in all the right places. Its not just the initial weight you would have to think about but whatever the tank is on would be subjected to prolonged weight

I wouldn't put any polystyrene under the tank, just some sort of cloth to stop tank / table getting scratched, polystyrene can cause the tank bottom to be unstable and can lead to the bottom pane of glass cracking.

careful with that, mine came with the warning that if it was stood on polystyrene it would invalidate the warranty. Probably because it wont be on an exactly flat surface and that could lead to extra stress in various parts of the frame/glass.
