Fluval Fx5 Question

Hi, i'm looking at buying a Fluval FX5 and i'm browsing through some specifications for the model. I'm stumped at what one certain aspect is on about, and quite what it does/is. can anyone help me. I've copied and pasted it, highlighting the part i'm on about.

theres a purge valve at the bottom so you dont have to start a siphon just drain a bit a tap at the bottom basically

I have this image of the filter being similar to a water-butt. Having a tap at the bottom, which i don't think is quite the right idea....

Ahhh i see, so my little image in my head was somewhat correct. Does it work in principle to the same way a tap on a water-butt would?

i think so but i believe you have to switch it off to use it but i think it may be hose pipe size

Haha, i get the feeling just putting the outlet for the filter outside the tank into a bucket would be easier no? Certainly what i do already with my Fluval 205 and 305 already after gravel vaccing is done. So much easier.

Same principle, just comes out quicker due to the power supply. It'd be crazy to use the "tap" provided, unless you require to empty the filter house for cleaning/moving. Which would weight alot concidering the size of the unit + weight of water inside. So i guess it has a use

i think its also because of the gunk that settles at the bottom its to drain that

Which is a fair point, and also a fair use then. Maybe its not as pointless as i was beginning to think it is. Well i suppose i will find out when mine gets delivered. Just bought a new one off eBay for £136. Seems a good price, concidering a new one in a local retail shop is nearer £200 around me.
