I bought a fluval edge a couple of weeks ago, it was quiet at first but recently it's got noisy. Taking the filter lid off makes a big difference, so my question is, can I just leave the filter lid off forever?
I've had my Fishless Cycle started for a few days on my Edge, check your instructions again about the black plastic triangle, it clips onto the bottom of your filter to keep it plumb with the tank, that might help your noise issue. Craigtaking the lid off seems like the only I can fix the noise problem too, would love to know if this will cause any problems in the long run (leaving the lid off)
apart from that very happy, spent hours trying to find my 6th endlers guppy when we found it had been sucked up and into the filtervery sad, Its not looking too good now and think it may become food for the others if it doesn't perk up. Have put some fine net around the filter intake.
Also, does anyone know what to do with the little black plastic thing (sort of triangular in shape)?
I've had my Edge running (as a marine nano) since they first came out on the market here (more or less) and I run it with the filter lid off. The vibration can make it overly noisy. The tank has suffered no bad consequences due to me doing this.
I can say is they do run quieter as they 'bed in' and if you find it noisy when you first set it up make sure you check you haven't got air trapped in the top of the intake pipe. To get rid of it just move the intake pipe left and right so the air gets pulled through the pump.
To remove the trickling watersound/bubbles under the top of the glass I cut a strip of filter sponge in half and laid it over the lip of the filter where the water returns to the tank. No noise and no bubbles. Just make sure you clean the sponge weekly and don't stop the flow of the water dropping into the tank too much (ie don't have the sponge resting in the water of the main tank) as I would think it may impede gaseous exchange![]()
