Fluval Edge

i also have a edge, love it but having the same problem, very noisy, have you managed to fix the noise problem

i love the edge, i was eyeing getting that or the horizon I have lol

my sister has one though, and i have never heard it being noisey tbh ????

I bought a fluval edge a couple of weeks ago, it was quiet at first but recently it's got noisy. Taking the filter lid off makes a big difference, so my question is, can I just leave the filter lid off forever?

I have exactly the same problem, I find it's quieter with the filter on full as the less setting just presents a splashing water sound.

Any help on these problems?

taking the lid off seems like the only I can fix the noise problem too, would love to know if this will cause any problems in the long run (leaving the lid off)
apart from that very happy, spent hours trying to find my 6th endlers guppy when we found it had been sucked up and into the filter :( very sad, Its not looking too good now and think it may become food for the others if it doesn't perk up. Have put some fine net around the filter intake.

Also, does anyone know what to do with the little black plastic thing (sort of triangular in shape)?

I've had my Edge running (as a marine nano) since they first came out on the market here (more or less) and I run it with the filter lid off. The vibration can make it overly noisy. The tank has suffered no bad consequences due to me doing this.

I can say is they do run quieter as they 'bed in' and if you find it noisy when you first set it up make sure you check you haven't got air trapped in the top of the intake pipe. To get rid of it just move the intake pipe left and right so the air gets pulled through the pump.

To remove the trickling watersound/bubbles under the top of the glass I cut a strip of filter sponge in half and laid it over the lip of the filter where the water returns to the tank. No noise and no bubbles. Just make sure you clean the sponge weekly and don't stop the flow of the water dropping into the tank too much (ie don't have the sponge resting in the water of the main tank) as I would think it may impede gaseous exchange :D

I've had my Fishless Cycle started for a few days on my Edge, check your instructions again about the black plastic triangle, it clips onto the bottom of your filter to keep it plumb with the tank, that might help your noise issue. Craig

Thanks so much for the tips everyone, its solved all the problems. This really is a great forum. My partner and I feel like idiots because we still cant figure out what the heck the little black plastic thing does (there's a photo of it in one of jennybugs 'Marine Tank 3 -The Edge!' pics, the photo with the intake pipe and filter insert). There's no mention of it here in our instructions, maybe the Australian distributor has not included it. We've both looked at the instruction booklet with a magnifying glass to try and see where it mentions it.

The black plastic bit is meant to go underneath the main body of the hob filter somewhere to keep it steady but I never used it :)

Hiya:
Just set up my new Fluval Edge. Lovely to look at, but boy does it sound awful. The filter is just so noisy. Sounds like the motor is making all the noise. I've primed it, tried repositioning it, tried the extra black triangularish thingy one should use if the the plastic stabilizer on the filter breaks off. All to no use. I will let it run awhile to see if it is indeed trapped air. But to me it just sounds like a really noise pump.
I have another tank that uses a Whisper, which is completely, just completely silent. So i was very surprised with this Aqua Clear.
Has anyone here swapped the filter that comes with he fluval for something better, i.e. quieter?

We have just got this tank today, there's quite an unbearable mechanical noise from the pump. The water is now full having read some of the fixes, please help - is it faulty or doing something wrong ? no water seems to be going up the pipe ?
Thanks

Talk about a sweet looking modern tank that you can fill all the way up to the top, the only downside is the price!

I was in my lfs and the fluval edge only 6gal was selling for $150 if that's not a lil steep, I asked them about a 55gal but i never got a quote on a price.

Good luck with ur new tank and fish soon to follow.

the black triangular bit of plastic is a secondary leveling device, only to be used if the primary leveling device is broken, which is just a bit of plastic on the hob filter, shouldn't be damaged so you have no need to use the triangular bit.

I had the same problem with endlers being sucked into the filter, i cut up one of the mrs' tights and fixed it onto the intake with an elastic band, no more probs now, it also helped with the bubbles that gather coz it slows down the flow marginally. i have had no problem with noise but it is a bit quieter without the lid for the filter.

Got my edge going last night....nice and quiet. There is a filter sponge cylinder thing wih you can buy fo £3 which goes over the intake pipe to stop sucking up small fish and stuff.

The onlyissue ive discovered after having it running for 24hrs now is that there is some condesation inside the lid and on the light bar?! is this just dueto poor positioning of the heater under the gap in the roof?

I've just set this up and was cursed with the extremely noisy filter.

Realised it was due to no water being sucked through the filter due to air lock, sorted this by slowly pouring water straight into the impeller, this then began to pull the water from the tank filling up both sections and forcing out the airlocks.

so far so good.
