Fluval Edge Cycling

Hi, I'm a month into a fishless cycle and things seem to be going very slow, i have been reading on the forum that you are better with a higher temperature during cycling, but as the Edge heater is non adjustable and should sit at approx 78%F[4% above room temperature allegedly],unfortunantly with the cold weather in Scotland and the aquarium being in a spare room according to the small Edge stick on thermometer the temperature is sitting about 70%. I was thinking maybe that i should buy another compact adjustable heater as the fish when i get them wouldnt be comfortable with that kind of temperature during this cold snap. Thanks Craig

I would get another heater now bacteria grows fastest while cycling in the mid to upper 80's F

Forgot to say, been just over a month and have only had ammonia down to 0ppm once, then topped up and its been sitting at 2ppm for the last 2 weeks, using Api test kit.

hello mate....sory to jack your thread but just have a question about your flval heater. ive just ordered one and dont think it comes with one?! ive seen one on ebay by fluval for the edge.....it black and not glass....non adjustable too so sounds like you have the same one? where does it fit? can it be easily hidden?

Hi, The Edge doesnt come with a heater, the 1 you have ordered is the black edge heater I have got and it has a non adjustable temperature, if its kept in a warm living room type room it probs would be ok, but mine is in a spare room where the temperature is not as high as our main living areas. I bought the Zen wall decor ornament that is made for the Edge and it hides the filter tube and Heater perfectly, I will post some pics as soon as my tank is Cycled and i can get some neat plants in there.

would it be worth wrapping the tank is some sort of insulator just until you can get another heater? - might save on some electricity if nothing else lol

It couldn't hurt. Why not just run up and get a small one for like a ten gallon should be around 10 bucks or so.

Thanks for the ifo craigie....the tanks going to be in the living room so will prob be fine. And ive seen those zen walls on evilbay. They look pretty cool. how much did you pay for your heater and wall if you dont mind me asking. The only place ive seen them is on ebay so i have no comparison on price. Cheers mate.

Alrite Ben, If you could cancel your order for the heater i would, think its better to control the temperature yourself, i bought another heater 2day for £12. I bought the Edge heater from petplanet.com for £15.60 and i got the Zen Decor for £15 from my lfs {think thats quite cheap beacause i had to wait a cpl of wks for it}lol Craig

Got my new heater and temperature is heading in the right direction, hopefully it will speed up my Cycle a bit, looking forward to getting some fish in the tank. lol
