Fluval 305

Hi All,

I have always thought the 305 was brilliant....but....

I am running it for 2 1/2 years on a well stocked medium planted 240L tank.
For 2 years it was with my Malawi setup, and the past 6 months on general tropical.

Over the past 3 months or so it has been a bit problematic. In the past, I have cleaned it out every 3 months or so. Never had a problem with water flow.
But over the past few months, the outflow has decreased dramatically. And now I have to clean it out every few weeks. After I did my wc last night, I noticed that there was almost no flow at all. And I had cleaned it 3 weeks ago.
In the past there has been more gunk at the time of cleanout, so don't think that was the problem. Last time I also cleaned the pipes as best as I could.
Checked the impellor, and that seems fine.

So as we "speak", filter is running great. But in a few weeks, who knows?

Any ideas?

ye that used to happen to me too when i had a few plants in the tank... i think i maight have been the plants in my case because i had not idea what they were and they made a lot of debry which got stuck in the power head.... once it got so bad that almost no flow was coming out and i only realised when i so my fish going up to the surface to get sone air... sure the elite 75 is not the best filter but for a plant to produce something to stop it running now that is a bit crazy if you ask me :blink:

now the plants are gone and the flow is great and not problems with it... it has been running for great about 2 months now and i am planning on cleaning it this weekend when the water change is due :shifty:

i am going to gie the plant thing another chance but i will only get plants that people recomend on this website or other people that i know have a lot of exp and they own a fish tank themselfs :good:
