Fluval 305

Is this a new filter that you havent used before?

Or has the rubber suction cup thing on the pump only recently stopped working and now you can get it t prime?

If it's the latter, you will have to start it the old fashioned way (like on old filter or Eheim classics), suck water through the outflow pipe until the filter and pipes are full of water, then turn it on, suck more if nessesary. Get a new prime assembly for around £2, as the suction cup on yours will be hard and/or cracked.

Unless I'm missing something and you think it has something to do with the UV?

Pump it hard and fast untill you hear the filter filling with water, then pump it untill all the air is out and then turn it on at the switch. Make sure you dont turn it on when its not full of water.

Also, if it is making noises, just tip the filter from side to side to relase any trapped air.

hope this helps.

What's leaking, the filter canister, pipes, or the UV unit?

How old is the filter, what maintenance have you done on it?

Fluval 4+ doesn't compare to an external for filtering a big tank IME.

So you have never lubricated the o-ring?

And has it been in constant use throughout its life, or sitting dry somewhere?
