Fluval 205, Fluval U3 Or Both

I think I'm going to use the U3 filter to save myself from having to modify the hood and I shall also put something behind it to ensure nothing can get round.

I'd use the external. Would never go back to internal after using externals. Just cut two holes in the lid like my Roma 200...

wow fair play that looks really good for a mod :) may think about a small external myself now after ive seen that lol

Do you reckon it could be cut with a hacksaw?

If anyone has successfully modified a Roma hood like that I'd love to know what they cut out with because I have just fitted an external to mine and have the same issue, at the moment the rear flap is resting on the pipes.

I modified my Roma 125 lid to fit my Fluval 206.

I cut downwards with a hacksaw & then used a stanley knife to score across a few times, I then bent the piece until it snapped off but you can just use the knife to cut all the way through.

It's easy to do and looks better.

I cut the holes slightly bigger just in case I change filters later and the pipes are bigger.

I had the Fluval U3 in my tank before changing to the 206, about 3 times a day I had to get fish out from behind the U3, one fish got damaged alot and died.

Did the mod today. Much easier than I was anticipating as I was worried that the plastic might split but it was a little more malleable than I thought.

Used the method psp83 suggested and it worked a treat. :good:
