Hey all,

Today I received my Fluval Roma 125 aquarium however the pipes for my Fluval 205 external filter don't fit the tank and the hood properly. I was just wondering if you think I should just use the Fluval U3 filter provided or ignore the hood having to be positioned differently in order to make room for my Fluval 205 external filter.

Thanks,
Josh.

Thanks,

If it was me i would use the U3 unless you plan to keep messy fish or overstock.

Nice looking tank :good: , Keith.

Is it true that fish sometimes get stuck behind the U3 filter?

It's going to look a beast once it's set up! ;)

Unfortunately yes this is true I have a U4 and my loaches love to hide behind it. With the slightly smaller U3 I have heard stories that there isn't enough room for them to get back out again. A key manufacturing fault by the looks of it.

I think there is an active thread on this issue. Don't get me wrong the 205 will do a fine job i just wouldn't want to start cutting the roma125's new hood to accomodate it.

Keith.

That's my problem, I don't want to modify the hood and I don't want fish to get trapped...

i posted in your journal, but with the same tank, go with the tetratech 1200 :)

i cut holes intooneof the hood pieces to accomodate my 1200 pipes :) i thought id hate it but it looks good still :)

im guna post on here aswell (as im posting in the active topic about fish getting stuck) because no fish seem to get stuck behind my U3 so im guna defend it :p i maybe lucky or my fish may not be as daring but they dont get stuck... i have very small fish cardinals/honey gouramis also ;)

im also aware people have a stuck fish issue but i like to give abit o balance lol

I think I'm going to use the U3 filter to save myself from having to modify the hood and I shall also put something behind it to ensure nothing can get round.

I'd use the external. Would never go back to internal after using externals. Just cut two holes in the lid like my Roma 200...

wow fair play that looks really good for a mod :) may think about a small external myself now after ive seen that lol

If only I could be so neat, hmm...

I can't take the credit for how neat it is, was like that when I bought it 2nd hand. The lid is pretty thin though so should be quite easy to do.

I don't think I dare try seeing as it's so new. :p
