Flow Rate Question

Greetings friends! I recently purchased a 40 gallon breeder style aquarium. I am thinking of going with a Rena FilStar XP3 with a flow rate of 350 gal/hr. Is it foolish on my part to get a filter with that much flow rate for a 40 gallon tank? The difference in price between an XP3 and an XP2 is minimal and the XP3 will allow for more types of media, which I prefer. I have an XP4 for my 90 gallon aquarium and love it!

It really depends on what fish you have in there. Most fish with large fins(bettas for example) would like to have very little to no current.

Makes sense. For the amount of water these filters cycle through the current isn't that bad IMO. I have a couple of angels, one big veil, and he does just fine. I'll probably be throwing my five electric blue jack dempseys in there upon cycle completion.
